Lochie night action by Peter Mackey, on Flickr

The trick seems to be shooting against a dark backdrop so that the subject doesn't appear translucent (as it does in third link).

To those that have posted scenics, keep doing what you're already doing. Use the rule of, do whatever the hell you want, as long as you keep producing asweome pics.

Put people as subjects in the centre, or don't, either way works, because photography is subjective, and the pics in this thread have been outstanding.

I should post some photos from my recent trip to Europe
Please do, but do it with the intention of adding more pics to this thread, not to correct CP'ers on how they should be shooting.

Great Airshow shots. Low ISO and nice fast shutter speeds.

I wish the sun would come out when I shoot with my telephoto... I'm always having to go up to ISO1600 (or higher) to get a fast enough shutter speed to shoot handheld since it's always cloudy whenever I find myself going for it.

Did a late day drive up to Jasper Saturday evening, slept in the car on the side of the street and headed back Sunday morning when it was still dark out.

Few pics from that drive:

You probably already know this, but panning and VR can help you keep your ISO down.

Yea, my 300mm F/4 is sans VR unfortunately... and if I'm too lazy to take the teleconverter off, it's even worse to handhold.

Thanks, but nahhh... lol

I think Jayems, Regulator, Yasa and Cowperson have posted some real 'thread winners' recently. My landscapes are pretty cliche and I'm still quite new to photography.

Hmmm, if I had to choose, I'd say Hans, Jayems, Sebc, BC-Chris & Kunkstyle all won this page.

CP sure does have a massive group of photographers and seeing different styles and subjects is what makes this thread so damn good.

And we all owe our progress as photographers to the unsolicitated advice of MoneyGuy.

You must be using different setting than me, because I'm not even on that page. But thanks!

I need to start shooting more. The only thing besides my beard shot is my now un-bearded face.

Just an FYI to the Nikon shooters, I'm selling a couple DX lenses here.

You already give someone an inside line on your 17-55?
I'd jump on your 35mm 1.8, but I may be in the same boat as you if the rumoured D600 turns out to be a tempting unit with good value.

D700 or D800 for you?
Congrats either way!
