Water treatment plants hit hard and require emergency loads of anti-coagulant.

Anyone else still smelling a lot of chlorine or something in the water? I know it's safe to drink, but it seemed a little odd that the water still kinda smelled reminiscent of pool water this morning.

They mentioned that they increased the treatment chemicals while bringing the line back into service but it's not an issue for drinking.

Yeah I know they did that as it was the same last time too. But IIRC it wasn't as strong and kind faded away within half a day. I was surprised it was stronger smelling and I still smelled it in the water almost a day later.
TBH, probably the best water to have right now to fill up water bottles for drinking/sorta cleaning.

Can we finally cut these guys loose? My Calgary doesn't include the Bowness' constant struggles.

Two smaller sections of pipe along the Bearspaw South Feeder Main will be repaired in October and November along Memorial Drive in Parkdale.
The signs were up this morning along Memorial looks to be about a month.

That sounds like its downstream of the Shaganappi pumping station and main feeder line? Doesn't sound like the disruption will be too significant?

Just got the Enmax bill that covered the last round of water restrictions, consumed 6m3 of water. Down from the same time the previous year of 13m3.

Might not be significant for water supply but holy crap has it made the commute suck for a lot of people. The lanes closures on Memorial/Parkdale and on Crowchild has created a nightmare situation. I'm glad it is almost vacation time for me so that I don't have to sit in traffic contemplating murdering other drivers around me (I always knew I hated sitting in traffic but I feel like my patience is all but gone now.)

Some initial info on the water main assessment.
https://globalnews.ca/news/10872670/...ain-break/amp/
High chlorides in water, microcracks in the mortor leading to corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement.
Quote:
According to the city, the preliminary findings indicate that several factors may have contributed to the pipe failure including microcracking of the “protective mortar” outer layer of the pipe, chloride levels in the soil at various locations along the line, as well as wires snapping due to “corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement.”
|
Quote:
According to the city, preliminary review found the original design of the pipe was “consistent with the proper guidelines of the time and operations of the pipeline were well within the design parameters of the pipe.”
|
No mention if the integrity program was consistent with good practice yet.
The report will submitted on Dec 11th.

I’ve met with the city water services workers in my travels and they’re using some pretty cool instruments on the water main. One sensor I’ve seen be installed uses some sonic readings from the pipe and based on several factors they didn’t get into detail about, they can use it to locate and anticipate failures.
