I think we lock both these beauties up to large multi-year deals.
Sutter has changed everything and I think the boys want to stick around and play together for the foreseeable future.

Certainly sounded like Sutter was calling out Eric Francis for praising Gaudreau and Tkachuk after leading the charge to get rid of both of them last year.
At 6:48.

Conroy was on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast episode.
Asked about Johnny (who's agent is Conroy's former agent too), he obviously didn't want to say much but noted he knows Johnny:
a) "loves what he loves and doesn't like change"
b) "loves records"
c) "really hates to lose."
It may mean nothing, but it certainly sounded promising to me.

I think this part could be key to retaining Johnny.
But then (c) could be the dagger if the boys don't go on a run this year.
However it could also work in reverse if he feels we play our hearts out and lose and then have unfinished business.
And then yeah, (b) would be key too because it would be hard to set any new records in a new franchise. Although seems like a weird reason to stay, is it just me?!

"You want us to sign for 8 years? Extend Darryl another 5 years and it's done!"

The best thing that can happen in life, in my humble opinion. Congrats Johnny and Meredith!

But, I do hope this news is being shared with Meredith's consent. It can be a stressful topic for first time mothers to announce a pregnancy, and I imagine especially moreso for a famous family.

Invisible Playoff Johnny can eff off and get his $10 mil per year somewhere else. There’s still enough talent on this team to make up the scoring. That’s money better spent elsewhere.

This is why we can’t have nice things lol. Can we not try giving Sutter more than 6 playoff periods before writing off players like this? We should be so lucky to extend Johnny… he put up 115 freakin points… there’s a good chance he puts his stamp on this series too IMO.

You just knew a thread like this was going to get bumped. Pretty embarrassing if you ask me. It’s 2 games in…

20 points in 32 playoff games , giving him 10 Plus for 8 years when he is about to be 29 will be a huge mistake for this team Tkachuk yes Gaudreau no ty

2 games into the playoffs and you're giving up on Gaudreau???
Thankfully the coach and most fans haven't.

Way too early to write Johnny off for these playoffs. He's had looks, and is still the guy who looks most likely to generate something for the Flames.
That said, Flamenfame's point is well taken if Johnny can't prove this year he can be an impact playoff player. You can't invest 8 figures (or 8 years) in a guy who's pushing 30 but can't push through playoff defence.
I'm not actually convinced Johnny can't do that though, and expect him to prove it in Dallas.

He is a point-producing small winger that is great in the regular season but gets shut down in the playoffs I have been very vocal against us building around him for years . And signing him long-term will come back to bite us.

I applaud your optimism.
But it's disingenuous to suggest that it has only been 2 games.
If he isn't a key player in winning three more games in this series and THEN key in winning another two series, then nobody is going to give him close to 11x8 or something.
He literally has to start doing things that he has never, ever done in his career.
It's not embarrassing to suggest players are actually what they have demonstrated themselves to be. Johnny has to prove that he isn't that. Ball is in his court.
