The fact remains the only provincial party opposed to this is the PC dynasty which used their considerable corporate advantage to run the province for four decades.

Alberta Party, NDP and wildrose all support this bill. You're sitting there with Ric McIver of all people bemoaning that democracy in Alberta just got a little more democratic.

Do you have a legitimate issue with this bill or are you just warning us about the big boogyman NDP? If the latter, maybe you should extend some of your vitriol at the Alberta Party.
Yeah I'm not sure moving fundraising from Calgary to Toronto makes anything more democratic for Albertans.

The Alberta ndp isn't independent. They get money from every federal ndp membership sold in Alberta and a 12% commission on fundraising they are involved with outside Alberta. Pretty useful when newly minted ministers can join fundraisers as part of other provincial elections, and a new celebrity premier can headline $10,000 a plate dinners outside Alberta. Since none of the other parties are subsidiaries it's probably not coincidence that particular loophole stayed wide open.

Until they split their organization and financial flows from the federal ndp Albertans should be cynical.

You mean like how I noted the Harper Conservatives did the exact same thing?

Speaking of waving the colours, Flash, try applying some critical thinking next time before blindly doing what you accuse others of.

that's tremendous.

Weren't these fools projecting a total deficit of $10 billion, now we're well on our way to $12 +

I guess looking back on Prentice's comment to Notley he was right, math is hard, for the NDP.

We're now going to go to Money Mart to get payday loans so the government can keep the lights on

Quote:
At the end of the fiscal year, on March 31, 2016, the government only had $3.6-billion left in its rainy day account.
When that account runs dry, expected in mid-2016, Alberta will begin taking on debt to finance the day-to-day operations of government for the first time in over a decade.
And our apparently transparent government released their departmental reports but ran into "printing problems" with the report on Infrastructure spending.

CBC is reporting that Jason Kenney will announce that he's going for the provincial PC leadership.

Will be interested to hear what he says and what his vision for the Province is. It might be enough to bring me back to the PC fold. The last election was a tough choice for me as neither of the centre/right parties was particularly appealing as a whole.

Like I said, right now the PC's could run a potato and there's a good chance I would vote for it.

But this election is going to be fought over the carbon tax and spending policies of the NDP. I would expect that the Libs, PC's, WR and Alberta Party will all campaign on rescinding this program and replacing it with either a GST, and a more well thought out Carbon Tax.

Man, if the PC party can clean up their act? Amazing. I'd vote for the Alberta Party but they have a long way to go before they are relevant.

Honestly, I'm hoping the NDP win was the catalyst needed to improve the PC party and clean up some of the ugliness. If not... then it was basically a waste of time.

Yeah, I agree. I was elegantly trapped in the last election. I couldn't vote NDP, because I knew after meeting my MLA candidate that it was going to be a government of destruction.

I couldn't vote PC, because of the Redford thing and how badly they had lost control of the check book, plus my MLA at the time was under investigation for beating his wife, and he was a arrogant twit.

I couldn't vote Wildrose because the party imploded and had no leadership and looked at the party of crazies.

I couldn't vote Alberta Party because we didn't have a candidate.

So for those of you that say that CaptainCrunch would never vote Liberal. Surprise I did vote Liberal, not because I believed in them as a party though, or because they ran a good campaign. But because they were the least idiotic choice for me.

Aaargh, this rattles my cage. How is a party you support supposed to get relevant if you don't vote for them? Or are you not really in support of them and only until enough percentage of Albertans vote will you then change your mind?

Sorry, just a gripe with democracy in general and voter habits.

Yeah, I meant more of what Captain said, as in: they're so irrelevant still I didn't have an Alberta Party member to vote for last election, so I couldn't.

If it changes I'd gladly give my support.

Today in idiotic policy, the Alberta government is supporting protectionist inter-provincial trade barriers.

Quote:
Provincial trade deal hits obstacle as Alberta seeks exemption

Ottawa and the provinces are expected to reach a long-promised deal on internal trade at this month’s premiers summit in Whitehorse, but a major hurdle remains over whether governments should be able to protect some contracts from going to out-of-province companies.

Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island have agreed to what one official called a “gold standard” that would open up all government procurement to outside firms.

But sources say negotiations hit a snag two weeks ago when Alberta’s government sought exemptions to the deal. One source said Alberta is proposing an exemption that would ensure at least 20 per cent of public procurement contracts go to local companies.
The NDP showing their sheer ignorance with respect to economic and financial matters yet again.
