Yeah, I'm actually still fine with the 6th pick in theory.

However, the lower lottery chances hurt. And the fact that we could fall to 8th or 9th kind of sucks too.

On the bright side, it's Columbus and Winnipeg that will be picking higher, not our rivals.

Blech. Do not want. It's a deep draft, why would we shoot for a 2nd line centre when there will be potential 1st line wingers with size and top 3 defensemen available? We're absolutely set at centre with Monahan, Backlund, Bennett and Jankowski. I don't get the love for McLeod at all.

Okay cool man. Whatever floats your boat. Jeez, heaven forbid we share a different opinion yeah?

@ 6 the Flames have a real shot at Nylander, Sergachyev, McLeod. Cry about it if you want because you have a thing for PWF players, but this is soon going to be reality. No Dubois, No Tkachuk. Maybe a Finn or Matthews....Maybe.

And FWIW, I think your thoughts on McLeod are very very wrong. But thats the beauty of all this fanboy crap isn't it? We all have a different take on things.

I would be so pissed if we ended up with Mcleod after this ####ty season. I am hoping PLD, Chychrun, or Tkachuk fall to us. If not, then take Sergachev

If we don't win the draft lottery. I still want Nylander. 6 feet tall and 180 pounds as an 18 year old is enough size for me.

The chances of one of those 3 falling to us are extremely high.

And I agree. Those are the players we should be discussing. Maybe Nylander as well.

Mcleod just isn't in the same tier in terms of potential.

.@cpgauthier83 if Winnipeg loses flames have a 57.2% chance of picking 7 or 8.

It's fine to have a different opinion I just don't understand why you have that opinion. Obviously not everyone is going to want to draft the same guys I'd want. Just saying I'd be super disappointed with McLeod. Maybe I went too far with that post, I dunno. Just disappointed with potentially losing 2 draft spots to the flukiest goals from guys who never score goals, slightly frustrating.

@6 we'd be guaranteed one of Tkachuk, Chychrun and Dubois. I kind of doubt both Tkachuk and Dubois go #4/5 anyways, there's a good chance a team lands in that range that really needs a top 3 dman. Juolevi, Chychrun and Sergachev are all candidates to go top 6-7 and push the power forwards down. And frankly I'm fine with any of those defensemen as that would give us insane defense depth moving forward. You can always trade young top 3 defensemen for a haul, that won't ever be a problem.

Did you see my post a page or two back about McLeod's offensive numbers compared to the other guys? None of the McLeod supporters answered my questions.

Ok, so who's the best case scenario for us if we don't win the draft?

Button has Nylander at 6th. I've had this feeling for a while that he'll be the one. It's fated.

I would love Dubois or Tkachuk. Nylander may be good too but his size makes me wonder if we need another skilled forward on the smaller side.

On defence I really like Chychrun and Sergachev. Really not sold on Juelovi

Dubois would be dandy. Think he has the potential to be one of the big players that come out of this draft. Right up there with the two Finnish guys IMO.

To be fair he's over 6'0 tall. Once he's fills out he's average sized at worst. He'll end up bigger than Baertschi or Shinkaruk or Granlund it would seem.

Thats not bad then. I read somewhere he was around 5 '11. If he can grow a few inches still that would be excellent.

Why? When I watch his highlight videos, Shift to shift videos, I see a lot of Monahan. When I see him skate I see Sam Bennett +.

His hockey IQ is great. He can play the coveted Flames 200ft game. I see a person who fits in with the plan here.

You asked why his stats don't scare me off of him, Because the Steelheads were the #7 seed in the OHL east, that line has only had one year together.
He jumped from 29 points in 63gp in his Rookie OHL season to 61pts in 57 gp in his 2nd year. Could be a Nylander effect. Could be just him finally tapping into potential.

This is one of the first drafts in recent memory when I haven't been bumbling over Euro or Russian players in the draft. McLeod strikes my interest a fair bit more than the rest of the middle guys.

Buttons ranking are everywhere, I like his takes but I don't take them as gospel. Same with red line. There's other lists and ranking from other sites that have McLeod right in there.

I just really like what he brings. He's not undersized, hes not slow, he's not a stupid player. He has everything in his toolbox to be a top 6 player in the NHL.

I really wonder where the Flames put Nylander. He would be 5 or 6 for me, and I think some perceptions are influenced by his dad. But I think he has some of the highest potential of the players in that area

Quick question, is PL Dubois' line mate Maxim Lazarev draft eligible as a 20 year old this year? Or is he a camp invitee?

Am I the only one who thinks that drafting 8th-9th ISN'T the end of the world? Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto would all likely be pushed out of the top 3. That would be sweet. The schadenfreude alone makes it worth it as 4-9 is really, really close.
