Both RFAs are important. Myers’ cap is basically being allocated between those two and then some.

Tanev is the type of pickup to put you over the top in the playoffs, can slot in anywhere from 4 to 6 with no problem, plus he tends to elevate whoever he plays with.

If you put that condition in you likely don’t get him, unless you are the only team offering a first.

I just don’t know if that’s a price Leafs GM Brad Treliving will want to pay or not. And if he does, I would imagine he would have some level of confidence he can re-sign Tanev before July 1."

Athletic is a joke. Not worth the $1/month I was paying for it.
Lebrun is a Leafs mouthpiece.

I wouldn't want that condition for the Flames. There's still 30 games to go before playoffs. We all know it's not zero odds Tanev gets injured again before the season is over. Buyer beware. Sold as is.

Does it really matter that the Leafs don't have a 2nd?
It could always be Tanev + 3rd (or 4th or whatever) for a 1st.

Let them lose another game or two and that added pick won't be necessary

Nope. We’re 95% to likely retain half on Tanev if it’s Toronto that lands him. 2024 1st or eff off. No picks given from us unless Brad wants a 7th rounder to be proud of himself for gaining a pick back.

agreed. I could live with a 2nd plus a solid prospect from someone else, but given Toronto doesn't have one, it's a 1st or go pound sand IMO.

Not going to happen, for either team.

Agreed about the Athletic no longer being worth it. I have access through my NY Times subscription, but I wouldn't pay for it otherwise.

some might use those numbers to argue that draft picks are overvalued, but to me, it's actually the opposite. How else are you going to find star players and build your franchise in the long run? The more picks you have, the higher the chance you hit on some. Give me as many picks as possible ... can never have enough bullets in the chamber.

Yeah if you took the data one step further and compared it team by team, I think it would highlight which teams have the best scouting departments more than anything else. The value that some teams like Dallas, Tampa, Carolina, etc. have found over the years is very impressive. Hell, even look at the way Wolf is trending as a 7th round pick.
Still though, it's cool to see the league averages like that. Great chart.
