I don't know. We'll see in a little while. I read it on a serbian site that it was Evra. Either way, it's good.

There are definitely problems in the England and France camps. Domenech seems to have 'lost the room' and I don't think the England players agree with Capello's selection and tactics. If he's smart, Capello will listen to what people have to say and make some constructive changes. He seems like too much of a tyrant to do that though, so it will probably be more of the same from the Three Lions. France is about to implode. There will be lots of questions and few answers in Paris.

France boycott training over Anelka row

Evra and the fitness coach got into it. Domenech stepped in to break it up. Also the FFF's managing director has quit.

The problem with this is that the players and supporters did all but canonize Capello during the qualifications. People may quibble with player selections here and there but nothing has really changed from the qualifying rounds - except the play of the players. They look bored, disinterested, and just plain refuse to put out any effort.
at the French.

Haha. Well good job justifying your teams failure by taking solace in the Italians drawing NZL.

Either way, this is a remarkable WC finals. France is pretty much out. Italy and England might not advance unless they finish with a victory, even if they do advance it might be in the runner up position and they'd be in tough in the round oof 16.

Germany and Spain are probably safe but you never know.

Well that was fun. The Kiwis deserve all of the credit in the world for that display.

No point complaining about diving when the Italians play. This is my 10th World Cup and somethings never change. Ark points out that England, Germany, all teams dive. True but not to the extent the Italians have always done. They are the true World Champions of it.

Anyway that's my last word on it in this thread, may I suggest another thread devoted to this subject so we can talk about the matches themselves here.

New Zealand have surprised me with their level of play. It was a gutsy effort. If only that effort from Wood has creeped in. That would have been really something.

I didn't see the Paraguay match. How did they look?

Domenech is probably the biggest idiot I've ever seen managing a World Cup squad but Anelka is such a little b!#(h. Everywhere he's gone that guy has been a crap disturber and if you are looking for a good read look up his brother (I think it is Claude) and his exploits in Scotland. France should be going out anyway, I don't think there will be a draw the Mexico game but they aren't getting 3 goals either.

I will admit I was dozing off during the game (as a result of the time not the game) but they continued to look solid. I don't know if it was their strength but they did not concede an attempt at goal until about the 85th minute! I guess the only complaint I have about them is they failed to beat the incompetent Italians

I am behind them for an underdog team in the tournament.

I'd say losing to the Argies in the second round on penalties is better than consulting astrology on your starting lineup and crashing out in that group in the 1st round.

What team do you go for?

Italy had 15 corner to 0. That has to be a record in the WC. The game was not a even game. Italy should have won 5-0. NZ had a hot goalie and lots of luck. Italy lacks creativity and finishing. I have to admit Lippi did not select the best possible team.

According to a french reporter being interviewed live on ESPN, Anelka told the coach, after being give an order, to "go fata yourself". Except the french reporter didn't use fata, ha.

How about if you take into account Hoddle installing faith healer Eileen Drewery on to his coaching staff to help cure physical and psychological ailments? Not to mention airing dressing room issues in his widely pilloried book, Glenn Hoddle: My 1998 World Cup Story.

But I digress, they were both idiots.

His views on the handicapped and spirits and so on aside, on comparisons of record, I guess 2006 vindicates Domenech somewhat in an idiot v idiot comparison.

Still they both belong in a special category along with Mick McCarthy.

I heard he said that as he was walking off the field after being substituted.

Woulda coulda shoulda didn't.

23 attempts on target only 5 hitting. Of those 5 (do penalties count in this stat?) a penalty was needed to score. Of the remaining 4, I think only two could have been somewhat problematic. Hot Keeper? I don't think so.

Stop making excuses - they failed to get what should have been a trivial job done.

I have no strong allegiance to any country other than my own (non-factor int he WC) so I support my heritage - England, Scotland, Norway, and Italy. Of those I probably have a stronger affinity to England as I am a long-time fan of the EPL. This does not preclude me from calling them out when they are terrible - which has been every WC since I started watching in 1982 (if they even qualified). I thoroughly enjoyed Italy winning it all in 82 and in 06. I don't have to cover up their childish antics nor do I need to make excuses when they suck. In 94 I was hoping for a win but part of me enjoyed Baggio's miss as he was a poofter of extreme proportions on the pitch.

Look somewhere else if you are trying to find an Italian 'hater'.

Edit: I also support my wife's country - South Korea. I am also their biggest critic.

FYI Most champions league games I watch have the dominant team taking 15-20 or so shots and having 4-6 hit the net. So IMO hitting the net was not the problem. The NZ keeper saved the team as much a Italy's lack of finishing.

I totally disagree. He was hardly tested at all. When Italy actually managed to hit the target they were not quality strikes. He merely had to be exist and not be woefully out of position.
