I wonder if he did some damage to a hand or shoulder when he went after Bayreuther?

In his 2nd game with Florida? He played 7 games after that, so I wouldn't think that would be it.

Yeah, upper body injury

The Panthers have like three games left in the regular season with positioning virtually set in stone and at this point are basically playing preseason games against their opponents. They're also giving their 4th string goalie his first game of his career.
You're overthinking this. The Panthers will probably be resting bodies and playing kids the rest of the way.

mocked mercilessly?
Being physical understandably makes you more apt to get hurt.

4 goals half way through the game so far tonight, 4 different goal scorers. Must be nice to have the offense they do this year, and depth.

They are 2 points out of first...Tampa or Nashville who would you rather play. Also tied for home ice which actually means something in the US. Big game for them its far from a pre-season game.
He is obviously somewhat injured. Anyway all I said originally is that he would surely miss games playing that style and that could hurt point totals.

Huberdeau and Tippett not missing a beat with Sam out of the lineup. Alex Wennberg already a +3

they're two points out of first the way Calgary is still in the playoff hunt. Carolina has games in hand and virtually has their division locked up. They've been resting guys like Hornqvist, Bobrovsky, Dreidger, and Verhaighe for a while now.
I'm sure Bennett has some bruises, but if today were a meaningful game, he'd be in.

Verhaeghe has been hurt for a while, they're not resting him.

Besides, if you're going to 'rest' guys for the playoffs wouldn't you rest your best players?

Yeah, if you’re resting for the POs it’s Barkov, and you are testing Bennett even a little more.

He may get injured occasionally, but Sam will be productive for the rest of his career. He is in a good situation, with a good coach and an organization that wants to develop him as a top 6 forward. He is going to play with talented players and will put up points. So you do not have to worry about that I suspect

Bennett does poorly coming back from injuries so I look forward to checking this thread again come playoffs.
Bennett will be on the 4th line or bench, most likely.

Why publicly route against a guy that played harder than most players on the current team, wasn't given his fair chance to succeed and was developed in our system?
The Panther's have clinched a PO spot, are much better than Calgary and have given Bennett skilled players to play with.
Bennett will be a play driving center for the Panthers in the top 9 if not top 6 in this years playoffs... you however will be at home eating crow.

I thought he played his best hockey after his shoulder injury. Great rookie playoff performance followed by an 18G-18A rookie campaign (better than Monahan’s).

The time I was mocked mercilessly was when I made Marc Savard comparisons.
18 points in his last 13 GP.
Should be rather intriguing to see how he does in these upcoming playoffs.

I think the Marc Savard situation was less forgivable. He actually was producing as expected. It was the opposite situation where Gilbert, had some very unrealistic expectations for him to play outside his skillset. It would have been like demoting and scratching Gaudreau for not playing a crash and bang style.
With Bennett, he was expected to generate offense, but for whatever reason, he couldn't do it. He needs his line mates to generate the chances for him. Maybe it was a curse in disguise for Bennett, but he could at least crash and bang on the bottom six, where as Monahan would be useless in that role. It made it easier to keep Bennett on the lower lines, which understandably, he got sick of after a while.

He didn't need his linemates to generate the chances for him, actually. He needed linemates who could finish chances and play at a high pace with their speed.
Bennett's lines have never been at a shortage of chances.

I don’t know that this is true. I don’t know the stats but it always looked to me like Bennett couldn’t even see his linemates. Tunnel vision was a pretty consistent complaint. His PO performances were often built off chances generated by Lucic or Dube. I haven’t seen Bennett (even when he’s good) being a chance generator as much as a sledgehammer finisher.
