I love it!
Although in an alternate timeline of the universe
The Leafs got McDavid, the Oilers (still) suck way worse, and that brings peace to my soul.

He was a hell of a player. One of the best all around players ever. Even though his career was cut short I think his points per game is still top 10 all time. He accomplished this all despite being born with overly large angle bones that led to chronic issues combined with broken wrists, ruptured spleen, etc.

That and how the hell did Naslund get 33 PIM? Did he spear someone everytime Forsberg scored?

Pierre-Luc Dubois is a fine hockey player who will be the Blue Jackets’s top line centre for the next decade. I am ecstatic that Tkachuk fell to the Flames, but I also suspect that Columbus fans are also not really bemoaning their team’s choice at the draft.

He's the youngest player on that list after Gretzky.

Patrik Laine, he doesn't have that many points without playing with him at the WJC. It was brought up at the draft too I believe, that it will be interesting to see if he could produce at the NHL level without him.

Sebastian Aho was a huge part of that line at the WJC too.
If I was Carolina I'm probably calling the Oilers about Puljujarvi. With the defense that the Hurricanes have at the NHL level moving somebody like Haydn Fleury for Puljujarvi could make sense for both sides.

That makes too much sense....shhhhhhhhhh!!! Don't let the Oilers OBC hear you say this.

Does Carolina have the depth on defense past the top six to move one? I am asking because I do not honestly know, but the Flames presently have a bonafide NHL defenseman sitting in the press box, and even there there are concerns about moving a defenseman.

I love The Athletic
The player: Milan Lucic, Oilers
The start: One scary number: Just a single goal in 11 games. Another scary number: Four more years after this one at a $6-million cap hit.
Odds it ends well: The Lucic free agent deal has been criticized from pretty much the moment it was signed, and no doubt Oiler fans are sick of hearing about it. After seeing his production fall off a cliff in the second half last year, at some point we may have to accept that this is just what Lucic is now – a guy who can contribute physically and as a leader, but whose days as a 30 or even a 20-goal force are over.

And here we thought Brouwer was bad. At least he could be bought out.
They are stuck with Lucic until the end of time or he succumbs to a skin condition only found in sharks.

I actually thought Puljujarvi looked a lot better than Laine at that tournament. I remember that being kind of the consensus at the time as well.

Yeah, that is what I thought as well. If I remember correctly Laine really took off after the tournament to secure his ranking as the #2 player behind Matthews, and Puljajarvi simultaneously also went a little quiet. In retrospect it seems that the WJC was more influential in inflating Puljujarvi's draft ranking than anything.

The interesting part of this is how during the draft all the question marks were about Matthew Tkachuk, and how he may just be a product of Marner and Dvorak and unsure if he would become a player of his own in the NHL.
https://www.tsn.ca/tsn-mid-season-dr...three-1.435206
That reason was the main reason why Tkachuk was available at #6.
It's crazy to think of just how good Dvorak-Marner-Tkachuk was as a junior line, with all three making a difference on their respective teams right out of the gate.
As for Poolparty being underwhelming and not living to the hype, that's a shame

Every time I think of Pulijarvi, it takes me back to another over the top article right after he was drafted, whereby the Oilers by adding him to their amazing stable of talent were quickly going to be the "Golden State Warriors" of the NHL. great article.
