I would be happy with the 4th round pick for Ramo or Hiller.

I would be surprised if the Flames got anything more than what Arizona got for Dubnyk (a 3rd) for Hiller or Ramo.

I actually prefer Hiller over Ramo as a partner for Ortio based on experience. However, I also think Hiller would be the preference for Buffalo because of the same experience and his "name", and I'm OK with that, since I don't mind Ramo at all.

I can't imagine a situation in which Hiller is not the odd man out. At this point, he is what he is. A 1B that can get hot, but who can also be maddeningly inconsistent. Ramo is pretty much the same, with the caveat that *might* have a higher ceiling given he's a few years younger. But at 29, he's not exactly a spring chicken.
Ortio could end up the worst of the three, but he could end up a top-tier goalie. BT doesn't trade away that potential to stick with two aging, known commodities that are both UFA at the end of the year.

Buffalo has three 3rd rounders in the 2016 draft. I'd take one of them for Hiller

I prefer Hiller over Ramo only because of the larger body of NHL work.
In a perfect world Ortio steals the job from either in training camp. This problem is a result of all three being equally mediocre. Bob's not seeing what he needs to see from Ortio.
Good for BT if he can get a 3rd.

Just to add to Buffalo's position, they have 1st priority on the waiver wire until November 1st. So if they feel Treliving will put a goalie on waivers before November, they can claim him without giving up an asset.

So if there were any other teams that were somewhat interested in one of the Flames goalies, they have to realize this and know that if they want that goalie, they have to make a trade for him.

Tim Murray doesn't seem like the type who will just wait around and hope a goalie gets put on waivers.
If he thinks his team needs a goalie, and needs some stability in net, he will make a move.
Return won't be huge but I don't see him waiting on somebody else doing him a favour.

Is it bad I actually got a little excited when Lehner went down? Not because Lehner got hurt but because this may give us an opportunity to trade one of our vets.

A deal isn't done yet this morning? Does Treliving know that Lehner is injured? Has someone sent him a link to this thread?

Goalies are incredibly difficult to predict, but with what he has shown so far - I have no reason to believe Ortio will be a good #1 goalie in this league.
Joni Ortio
GP: 15
GAA: 2.52
Save %: .899
Nowhere near enough data to draw upon, but not exactly a stellar case for overt optimism.
I like Joni, but I've never projected him to be a #1 goalie, and I always thought there would be a new #1 goalie after this Hiller/Ramo tandem rides off into the sunset after this season.

Gillies is going to take that roster spot. At least I hope so. If Gillies puts up a wall in Stockton he'll make BT's job a lot easier.

No need to worry. The instant Lehner went down, his Wizard-senses started tingling.

Wonder if Buffalo takes a chance:
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Budaj (LA) on waivers today.

More of a backup type of a goalie, I would think if the Sabres number 1 is out for a lengthy time. They need a better solution.

Buffalo is at 47 contracts right now. Would they want to be at 48 to claim a goalie off waivers, or would they want to move a contract out?

It just makes too much sense for Buffalo to trade for one of our goalies. The names mentioned already, don't seem like they would be good enough to a #1. We have the best options available right now for Buffalo to win some games this year.
At this point, I would be fine with Hiller or Ramo going to the Sabres.

Tim Murray, on top of being an incompetent GM, has also shown that he has no problem losing games on purpose. I bet they go for Scrivens
