ok - just got back from the rink. i gotta say, price is a first class act - he's such a nice guy. after the practice i was able to go to the change room and chat with him a bit.
before he knew i was a flames fan he said one of the guys with the sickest shot in the league is cams - i guess squid can really wire it!
i had the entire room laughing when he asked me about cheering for the flames - i guess he assumed i was from calgary. when i told him that i grew up just west of toronto and back then (just like know) the leafs sucked, so i was a pretty die hard hab's fan until the mid 80s!!
another interesting conversation was about the olympics. i found it funny that these pro hockey guys were amazed at how 'ripped' these olypians are (that coming from a professional athelete). we were also chatting about the olympic events and one guy said, 'the sports are so cool - it's too bad we only get to see professional diving once every four years.' i didn't really know who the other guys were so it took every bit of personal restraint to not make any canuck joke!
anyways - onto the pics.....

Finally got to pick up my new Nikon d800 today after 8 months on the waiting list!
This thread is definitely an enjoyable one to look through, and hopefully I can start contributing to it more now. I used to really be into photography (shooting both 35mm and MF), but over the last few years I seem to have gotten lazy and only use the point and shoots because they are easy to carry. I'm really hoping this new d800 will rekindle the love with the big dogs again.

Ooooo, congrats dude! If you find yourself NOT using it, I will easily take it off your hands. Remember it weighs a tonne, you might not want to lug it around the streets of NYC...

No worries, I'm in Calgary now, I have my car to carry it around for me!
Btw, after hearing about how heavy it was, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It's not too bad....but then again, I'm used to my tank F4.

Pffft. Nikon. Some obligatory comment as to why Canon is better with no real backing other than brand loyalty. So suck it, Nikon users!

one of my buddies the the big-wig for kelowna major men's fastball. last night was the finals so he asked me to come out and take some pics. i've never done fastball before yesterday so it was a bit of a learning curve. the lighting was very less than desirable, but oh well.....

this was a pretty good collision at first base. #81 was the first baseman and the guy in black tried to avoid/side step him... with no luck. #81 went flying

i was able to get into the score keeper's area - right behind home plate. wow - what an amazing vantage point. i never realized how much the ball curves. i have no clue how these guys actually hit it!!!

That's ok, a 50 year old 4x5 still spanks the pants off of any Nikon or Canon when it comes to image quality.

CP doesn't support that feature. You need to host them on imagur, imageshack, dropbox or the like.
