USA 1930 and Korea 2002 are the only non European or South American team to ever make the world cup semifinals.

For minnows, Turkey as mentioned. Bulgaria made the 1994 semis.
Croatia, a new country, made the 1998 semis.

Is Croatia considered a top-tier team? I wouldn't have thought so and they made it to the final last time out.

I'd say they are. Back in 98 it was probably more of a surprise since they were newly formed.

For both them and the Netherlands, you wouldn't think they'd be one of the favourites given their population but they punch above their weight class and have for a while.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a first time World Cup champion, as long as it is not Portugal, though.

Cameroon just getting scorched at the back here. 2 of their backline already on yellows for making desperate last-ditch tackles.

Serbia just scored again.

This is a more exciting game than the Brazil one. Back and forth heavy metal football

Goalfest in the Serbia-Suisse game 2-1!

It's crazy how teams play when they can't hold back.

Yeah. F that defense first approach like Sutter. That's not going to work.

Ghana got too carried away with 'revenge' against Uruguay today. At one point they were parking the bus to prevent Uruguay from advancing instead of trying to tie the game themselves, 2-2 would have advanced them.

The Suarez handball has never bothered me. I think we would all want our players to do the same thing in that situation. Yes, I would want Alphonso Davies to do that in a World Cup quarterfinal if he were unfortunate enough to be in that situation. And the Ghanaian player absolutely dove to get the free kick that started the whole thing so we can't talk about 'fair play'.

And it's not like Suarez went unpunished. He gave up a penalty, got sent off and was suspended two games (the rest of the tournament). He missed the semifinal and would have missed the final if they advanced.

Ugh...shakes hands with the ref then gets his second yellow for taking his shirt off and a red.

That is such a stupid rule.

The first African nation to defeat Brazil at the World Cup.

That was a crazy game. Cameroon were awesome to watch, they just left it all out there.

Its just a stupid rule, I know the ref has no choice. Give him a choice.

The guy scores a huge, famous goal for his country and some ticky tacky shirt rule gets him sent off.
