It occurred to me today that, if a fascist United States decided to invade Canada, the building I work in would be a smoldering pit before I'd know what was happening.
Didn't think I'd have to consider that when I took this job.

Be a weird thing for the USA to do though, considering they run a #### load of businesses up here.

Why would they need to invade us, they could basically crush our economy and then swoop in and buy us.
And the only help for us is across the ocean.

If anybody's struggling to hear the video (seems like it's getting killed by traffic), apparently this is the content. It was during Yates' confirmation hearing to her (ex) position:
Quote:
Sessions: You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things you just need to say "no" about. Do you think the Attorney General has a responsibility to say "No" to the President, if he asks for something that is improper? A lot of people have defended the Lynch nomination, for example, by saying, "He appoints somebody who's going to execute his views, what's wrong with that?" But if the views the President wants to execute are unlawful should the Attorney General or Deputy Attorney General say "no"?
Yates: Senator, I believe that the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General has an obligation to follow the law and the constitution - and to give their independent legal advice to the President.

What blows me away about all of this, is this is probably the first time in history that the majority of Americans are upset that a new president is actually following through on his campaign promises. Everything he's done so far is exactly what he said he would do. Everyone who voted Trump or didn't vote at all deserves everything that's happened and will happen

Welcome to the populist agenda. People get suckered all the time. I agree and disagree with your statement at the same time. Of course there are people who wanted all of this and who are rejoicing. Others were hoodwinked by propaganda, suckered in, and now they are realizing how wrong they were. It's very easy for me to say they all deserve it, but it's more complicated than that. Every person who feels deceived by voting or not voting is one more person that is potentially someone who stands against it. They cannot be alienated.

Yep it is amusing. Post after post about how unbelievable the moves are that he has made. But it's exactly what he said he would do. So used to politicians who just say anything to get in without actually doing any of it once they get there. Spend their time soaking up the golf course and giving excuses for why they didn't actually do anything they said they would.
Imagine if we could look at platforms that weren't just whatever will get them in but stuff they actually believed was good. Then you could decide based on the merits of their ideas rather than the propaganda.
This could be the benefit of the last election for Americans. Instead of just spouting crap about their opponent they could give out actual ideas. Ideas they actually believe and will implement.

As of Saturday morning, I got to listen to coworkers and clients talking about what a great job Trump has done so far, how much he's gotten done in just a week.
These people honestly think he's doing good work. They're convinced anything against him is all fake news. You just literally cannot reason with them, they won't hear any of it.
It's incredibly upsetting to be living here among all of this.
You've said before you live in "Hickville" PA, IIRC. I'm curious what's tying you to a place dominated by a culture you clearly don't respect? Family? Job? This is a non-judgmental question here...really just trying to learn more about how the US is so divided, yet (in your case) still has such clear ideological conflicts on the "micro" scale -- that is, neighbour to neighbour, as opposed to "east vs. west" or "urban vs. rural."

From what I can tell most everyone who voted trump are extremely happy and somewhat shocked he's keeping his campaign promises, some of his embedded old club R senators and pretty much the entire left are loosing their minds.
This will make a great book someday, probably several before the assassination.

Keep that in mind every Canadian election, when you're pissing and moaning about the fact that Alberta's vote doesn't count. Doesn't matter. The majority of Canadians voted for one party and that is all that matters. You deserve everything that comes with a government that does not support your views.

The ills of a multi-party, multi-variable system. Point still stands, the majority share, or the greater part, has made the decision. Suck it up and stop your bitching. That's what I'm hearing from Hemi-cuda. Sorry, that's not what happened down here.
Did you know the country has voted as a majority for one party since the dawn of this century? Did you know that in two of those elections the minority vote won the election? That's right. We ended up with Bush and Trump because the system is so badly broken. The majority are not represented.
