"Let's go murder them!!" -Simon Phoenix at the Kingsmoot.

I am confused by Bran's vision, so he was getting some information from the three eyed raven, there was a reason that he wanted him to see his father being sent away.. and then he turns and wargs Hodor back here to force him to hold the door in the future? Because he was trapped in the vision?

The show completely skipping Victorion and the dragon horn has me suspecting those are dead-end, filler storylines in the same vein as the Quentyn Martell storyline.

If so, what a waste of writing time and effort that could have been channeled toward actually moving the story forward.

AKA A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons.

So the children of the forest creating the others seems...strange to me. Yes, the children were at war with the first men. But to create something with such blowback that they had to almost immediately turn around and ally with the first men to defeat (stall? postpone?) their own creations? I guess I just didn't expect that.

EDIT: I just glanced at the wiki, and I guess immediately was a tremendous overstatement on my part.

Quote:
Twelve thousand years ago, the First Men from the eastern continent of Essos migrated to Westeros by crossing a land bridge known as the Arm of Dorne. The First Men began cutting down the Children's forests, including the sacred weirwood trees, leading them into conflict with the Children. The two races fought a desperate series of wars for dominance for the next two thousand years, during which the Children of the Forest destroyed the Arm of Dorne and flooded the the Neck through the sorcery of their greenseers.

ThePact

The Children and the First Men clasp hands in peace. Note the four-digited, tattooed hand of one of the Children.
After two thousand years of violence, the Children of the Forest and the First Men fought one another to a standstill. The two races agreed to peaceful coexistence and signed the Pact on the Isle of Faces in Gods Eye lake, granting the open lands to humanity and the forests to the Children.

The Pact lasted for two thousand years before the enigmatic White Walkers invaded from the uttermost north, bringing death and destruction to both races. The Children of the Forest allied with the First Men to drive back the White Walkers in the War for the Dawn eight thousand years ago. After the defeat of the Others, the Children, much-reduced in number, are said to have helped Bran the Builder raise the Wall with their powerful magics to prevent the White Walkers' return.
Having the white walkers/others show up two thousand years after hostilities ceased with the first men? Something doesn't seem to add up there.

Guessing that White Walkers TV Origin story doesn't equal Book origin story.

Anyone else notice how Jon/Sansa/Davos left out the Reed's when mentioning all the houses in the north they could still call on?

Why does Euron look nothing like Euron in the books? Annoying their casting decisions sometimes. Euron was cool because he was a pirate. He looked like a pirate. He had a weird eye. He had dreadlocky black hair.

This guy doesn't look threatening at all.

Continuing my thinking about the episode (only watched it last night), I'm wondering if Euron is going to play the role of that Dornish prince somewhat? The guy that thought he could go over and marry Dany, and instead ends up rebuked and tries to get the dragons instead, with hilarious consequences.

I couldn't help but think that as he made his pretty arrogant speech about going over to her at the Kingsmoot.

What I quoted was from the Game of Thrones lore and backmatter from the Blu ray/DVD season sets.

Why are there two threads to talk about the TV show and none to talk about the books?

This is the thread to talk about the books and/or the TV show. The other is for only the TV show.

In the latest book news for A Song of Ice and Fire:

I agree. The only thing that has translated into the character is the cockiness, but it's more of a brash type of cockiness rather than a calculated charismatic one.

I liked the casting when I first heard it, because the actor has the base look with the "smiling eye" potential, but they didn't follow up with it properly IMO.
