Is the Bow River Flow on one Sunday afternoon really that big of an inconvenience for you? It's nothing to me and I live right in the middle of it. How exactly does having it show little concern for our community? This seems hyperbolic to me.

I'm not a fan of it, but it's not like it's a big deal at all.

I like the subtle understated feel of the St. Patrick's bridge at that location, which hopefully they retain the natural feel of the island. It's simple but elegant. It may be a bit vanilla but I get my chocolate with sprinkles from Calatrava. I'll use both bridges when out in that area for a nice loop.

Neither bridge is great, and they both remind me of stuff that I played with as a kid. The peace bridge we know about.

the above bridge needs a big spinning wheel on it cause it looks like a gyro toy

Agreed that Druh deserves her critics, but one has to admit the kind of vitriol and hatred sent her way over this bridge (which wasn't even her idea) is unlike any other politician has seen in this city.

I am right in the middle of the Bow Flow now, I don't mind the event but think they really need to open it up to some vendors for at least food and drinks.

However I didn't like her doing the math and pulling the plug on fluoride in our water.

It's not the end of the world, but you cannot get out of Sunnyside that day. We tried last year, and everyone cuts through Sunnyside (9th Ave) to try and short cut the event. We tried to get out of our own community to do something else and couldn't unless we went on foot, it was a total gong show and poorly planned when it came to the needs of Sunnyside.

Seriously, block off access to 9th Ave so residents can actually escape if they want to. I tried to even go for a walk, but we just sucked in idled car fumes as we walked down the street.

Also, I gave multiple examples, I didn't just say I disagree because of that one event. It is just one of many bad ideas she comes up with, I also cited the 10th St bike box. Others have mentioned the removal of fluoride in the water.

If you read my whole post, you will see I am just saying she doesn't deserve bouquets of flowers thrown at her feet as the article states. Yes, she doesn't deserve all the hate she gets, but she is far from blame free. That was my whole point, some of the criticism is fair game.

A constant reminder to all Calgarians not to entrust politicians with our money without scrutiny and sober second thought.

Like the Senate? I understand it's purpose is to be the chamber of sober second thought. Maybe we could have appointed Senators for our municipal gov't too!

Yup, I think that was the one I remembered!

Also I'll be making a fool of myself on the CBC news at 5:30 tonight, they interviewed me about the bridge and the t-shirts that got made.

That's not the fly fishing one, but was one of my favourites too.

Despite the fact you are 'in the middle of it', you clearly don't live on one of the streets that serve as an informal detour for pissed off drivers who need to compensate for the lost time on Memorial by screaming around Sunnyside.

Try shaving, jerk bag.

Also, I wish you would have been latte-sipping during the piece.

Actually I live on 1st Ave, so I do. It's worse on 2nd, but it still happens on my street.

we that alone makes Flow an awful idea.

2nd Ave at least can deal with the traffic, its the streets at the far west and east of SS that are the worst. People walk with dogs or kids around there and drivers go flying around the corners. Druh the honey badger could care less though. The only thing she has going for her, is that she has never had any competition in muni elections.

Jason Markusoff with another article on the origins of the bridge:

http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Br...765/story.html

I has been suggested that we refer to the bridge as "The Daver" due to this article, I kind of like it!

Food trucks at the Bow Flow would get me off my fat butt!

As for the Flyfishing bridge (from here)

Images a touch large for some of our small monitored CP brethren.
Spoiler!

I am not a huge fan of it, but would have been ok with it being chosen.

^^^ I liked that one. Was hoping that would win it. Would standout nicely in the evening. I guess though that they want the bridge to standout in the day time more though.
