Now understand I am not defending the driver but do you honestly think getting on a bike drunk is a smart move?
I’m sure I could rattle off 15+ worse ways of getting home after getting drunk than riding a bike. Riding a bike, while not the smartest way, is actually responsible and fairly smart.

And mostly harmless.
Any damage you do on a bike is usually to yourself and minor. Unless you introduce a 3000Ilb intruder into the equation.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Yes, of course it matters. As a central nervous system depressant, one of the key things that alcohol does is impair judgement and higher reasoning skills. that can cause someone to drive overly aggressively among many other impairments. Just because there's an arbitrary line where they can charge you with a crime or not, doesn't mean that a single drink won't impair your abilities and higher reasoning.
I get upset when people have a single drink and then drive because of the effects it has. I also get upset when people smoke weed and drive for the same reasons. There's too much at stake when you get behind the wheel of a ton of metal traveling at high velocity. Just plan ahead FFS.
I'm not arguing that, but drugs and alcohol are not the sole causes of impairment. Fatigue and (seemingly in this case) aggression can also impair one's abilities and higher reasoning. If you storm out of the house angry or stay awake for 24+ hours you are likely to be more dangerous on the road.
A fact which is also written in the same statute that this guy is charged with violating, though I imagine much more difficult to prove in the absence of a confession.

A prosecutor on Friday said he had been drinking at home after finishing a work call at about 3 p.m., and having an upsetting conversation with his mother about a family matter.

So, he allegedly always drives like a nut and was also allegedly upset and drunk. Seems like there are multiple factors at play here.
Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins took to Instagram to announce the birth of his son, Jaxon John Merzlikins, with the ‘John’ in his name honoring teammate Johnny Gaudreau.
I believe this is Merzlikins' second child named in honor of a late teammate.
The Gaudreau family are launching a 5K run to celebrate the legacies of Johnny and Matthew, who died tragically last summer.
The event, which takes place May 31 at Washington Lake Park in Sewell, N.J., will raise funds for the creation of an adaptive playground at Archbishop Damiano School, in Westville, N.J. The school provides services to over 135 children with multiple disabilities, offering individualized and special education programs for students between three and 21 years old.
While the physical event will take place in New Jersey, supporters anywhere can participate virtually by walking and running whereever they are.
According to event volunteer Gillian Kocher, a lot of Calgarians have signed up to participate.
“To know the Gaudreau family is to know that family comes before all else,” said Michele McCloskey, executive director and principal of the Archbishop Damiano School. “The family’s long-standing dedication and history at Archbishop Damiano School have been a source of inspiration for us all. Their kindness and love continue to touch our hearts as they strive to live our mission and impact our students’ lives despite their loss.”
That's a special baby. It must be bittersweet, knowing he'll never meet his father, but having a new piece of Johnny come through after his passing. A gift of life from the afterlife.
