that's a bad idea.
his playoff performance or the team playoff performance? who gets to judge that? the eye test of the fans?
he was a main piece of the second best team in the league. you're just going to say that's worthless? players on teams that miss the playoffs should just all get league minimum?
now if you suggested season ticket prices should be tied to team success, then you'd be onto something.

At the level he is expecting to get paid his playoff performance is tightly bound to the teams performance. A 20 year old Draisatl carried the Oilers to a better playoff performance than the Flames have had since 2004.
Tkachuk on a much stronger team has played 9 playoff games 1-8 at a replacement level of play.
If he wants to get paid like Draistl he has to show up to the important games and be a difference maker.

Something that came to mind is that if we don’t have a Tkachuk signing by this time tomorrow, and if they follow the same path that they did with Mangiapane, Tkachuk will be missing all of the exhibition games.
Sign tomorrow.
Fitness testing Thursday.
Team practice on Friday.
Play against the Oilers on Saturday.
Disappointing that it is taking this long to get a deal done.

Agree with CZ (and many others).
What a damper on the season.
And if does extend into the season, a "who cares" attitude will creep in with some.
And while I get the $$$ aspect of this for Tkachuk, he will be a mega-millionaire no matter how this breaks.
Why waste a season and perhaps even become persona non grata in Calgary?

At this point I wouldn't be shocked if he signs the night before the season begins and is kept out for the first few games.

Why would be be kept out of the lineup? If he signs before game 1 I think he plays

Anyone know what he is doing for training right now?
First game next Thursday in Denver, I would say if signs by EOD Monday he plays. Has to practice at least once right?

Skating by himself and with the London Knights (thats been seen or reported publicly). I would imagine plenty going on behind the scenes to stay in shape. That said, its not game shape and he'll need time.

Same line mates, same coach, same system. He plays game 1 or game 2 at the latest in your scenario (in my opinion)

That might be. Would love to see him the lineup and not miss a step.

players are paid for a season of hockey. not just a month in the summer.
team game. the team did poorly. not just one player. why penalize only one players contract when the team crapped the bed?
and Draisaitl didn't carry the oilers anywhere. he had a good playoff year in which the oilers failed to get past the second round (same as the flames only two years before. not 2004)

And Talbot carried the Oilers to round two so troll elsewhere

He also helped them miss the playoffs all the other years of his career
And Talbot carried the Oilers that year so trolling Flames fans won't work on that one

Well, I think there remains a good chance that his is in the opening night lineup. At this point there is likely no chance that he doesn't miss a step.

While it would be great to have him signed by now, Tre, for the most part, has been fantastic at signing players. He hasn't faced this sort of pushback and isn't likely to cave and set a precedent moving forward. This signing is huge moving forward as Mony and Johny prepare for their new deals.
Given Tkachuks dads situation when negotiating, I am not surprised we are at this point and I appluad Tre for avoiding the easy route.

I admire the fact that they have, by and large, been able to keep the media out of it.

Even if that happens, fans should probably start mentally preparing for a sub-par campaign from him. Attending camp is crucial to preparing for the season.
I hope the Flames can still win with him not performing like he did last season.
Crappy situation, but such is the climate now for big time RFAs.

This article lists some late RFA signings and almost all of them had improved seasons (except for Johnny). Obviously with RFA players you are expecting improvement but it's interesting that hardly any saw a decline when missing time due to contract disputes.
