This would be money well spent; maybe some of the billions of dollars that McKenna's department is missing could be used here...

Had the kid out on the road bike Sunday morning... a nice 36km jaunt from NW Calgary out through Bearspaw, north around some amazing acreages, and back via Church Ranches. So many great roads and areas here for learners. 99% of gravel cleared up, majority of roads w/ busier traffic have shoulders, or those without tend to be very quiet. Kid is coming along nicely between learning to drive, learning to ride, and being respectful of manners and others. More decent car-free routes sure would be amazing! And no, the multi-user-paths (aka MUPS) along the Bow River sure do not count as they're seemingly filled with unsteady oblivious sketchy riders these days. Yes, even the pathletes ripping along at 45kph trying to set a new Strava-sshole record segment.

Nearly did 3 hours of cycling and I'm back home feeling completely wiped. I've never went that long so I dont know how you guys do it.
Any tips on recovery? Aside from a good cold shower

I regularly foam roll (stiff roller) and use a lacrosse ball all over my legs. I also do the couch stretch and many other things to move my hamstrings. You might also consider doing a bunch of hamstring strengthening exercises and cycling really works your quads a lot more than your hammies.

I dont have a foam roller, but would a rolling pin do?

looking for advice on gravel rides around Drumheller this weekend. OK I don't mind riding the road too if need be. Target timeframe 2-3 hours, so about 50-70km. Typically on a real road bike I average close to 30kph.

I can't figure out how to get around path closure at the bridge over Elbow River going into Inglewood. The detour signs don't seem to lead you back to the Elbow River upstream.

Trout - ca you not just follow the bow river pathway and then take that dedicated bike/pedestrian bridge over the elbow into the wood?
Alternatively, being a fish, you could just swim

I'm trying to ride up the Elbow path from confluence with the Bow, towards the Stampede grounds and Stanley Park, but the bike path is closed off at the 9th ave bridge (construction). The detour signs don't seem to lead you back to the Elbow path.
Maybe I can go up 8th st SE, and back to the Elbow.

You have to ride over to 11th Street SE, then back through Ramsay. Alternatively, you could take 4th Street underpass to 12th Ave, and cross over the elbow on the McDonald bridge, or on the bridge behind the saddle dome

Unfortunately the city's detour signs (and the detours themselves) are notoriously bad.

Thanks, 11th St brought me to Spiller Rd, then the Stampede Grounds, and back to the Elbow path.

Hope this is ok in this thread but any CP faithful handy with bike maintenance who can use a kids bike?
The youngest grew out of a trek MT 200. This bike I think. https://archive.trekbikes.com/ca/en/...0_boys/details
We knew it needed some TLC after a few summers in fish creek but everything worked and I’d intended to wash it and donate it. Then a few days before new bike he woke up to a flat front tire. I think just a tube.
I don’t want anything for it. If I can avoid paying for a a tire and tune up before donating it I’m happy.

Where are you located (shoot me a DM)? I could take it off your hands, tune it, throw in a new tube and donate it to Two Wheel View for you.

Stolen from a friend:
Cycling friends! Please send a quick email to Banff at info@banfflakelouise.com
to let them know how great it is to ride the Bow Valley Parkway. Parks has been keeping this road closed to traffic, and from my point of view it is seeing more use than ever before, except now with smiling cyclists instead of speeding cars. I sent them a note and got a great reply, asking me to solicit more feedback. So now's your chance! It only takes a minute. Thanks!

My dad was out there talking to the warden stopping vehicles. She said they were counting bikes, and it was more than the car counts they do in the summer. Would be great if this was full time, though they'd still need access for Johnson Canyon. Maybe they could build a pathway beside the road for the section from Castle to JC.

I am intrigued: which sections of the parkway are we talking about? Now that I know about this, I'm definitely going!

You start here:
https://goo.gl/maps/35VuyCHXmJcs7HPv6
Or you can park in Banff at the rec centre and the legacy trail follows beside the highway to the interchange. Be warned though, that section is probably busy these days on weekends. I'm not sure how far is closed, but definitely to Johnson Canyon. Watch out for bears in the burn areas, I often see them.
