Skippy is derisive though. It’s designed to be an insult. PP is just his initials unless you are less than 12.

I thought Skippy was a nickname given to him by his own peers? Or did they do it as a bit of a FU to him at the time, given how off putting he can be? Was the nickname given in good faith, or a bit of malice?

My understanding is its from all the times he skipped going to Parliament in his younger years.

Neither party has any incentive to chase votes out west. I'm hoping the Maverick party can make some inroads and we can actually put some seats up for grabs. We had Harper for 10 years, what did he do for Alberta?

Yeah this is why I can’t taking any whining seriously when it comes to Alberta not being represented. The reform party has been in charge for half the time over the last 20 years with a western Prime Minister.

If you look at two scenarios, where in the first, company x has, whatever, say, 80% of the market, vs a company like Amazon having 40%, and millions of other competitors, but it's closest competition holds a fraction (less than 8%). Is that competitive imbalance much less problematic than the first scenario? Even if the bulk of companies hold the majority of online sales? I'm not so sure that it is much less problematic.
|
I think anti-competitive practices are a bigger concern than sheer size. Amazon is particularly bad here.

Some people use PP because spelling out annoying names can be hard or one can be lazy at times (totally fair). Some people use PP because it sounds like peepee and it makes them giggle since PP is a weiner.
It's up to you to decide which group you are in. I'd rather just say Poilievre or Trudeau. They are 2 letters in difference.
Now Guillbault, that name is annoying to spell. But nobody would know who SG is if I said it. Even JT is hard to know. JS? PP is known and understood because it is used often, we know who it refers to, and sounds funny (let's be honest here). It's also the only 2 letter acronym being used around here to refer to a politician that I can see, outside of the odd JT.
So yes, several uses of PP like you said are indeed innocent, continue to use it as you wish. When it's parroted by pollsters who have made it their life to make sure he will never be elected and posters here who also try to pass off the CPC as fascist, it's use in those cases tends to be dubious.
In many case folks who use PP are often the same who use Skippy or Milhouse (sometimes in the same post because they are just that hip), so hard to give those folks benefit of the doubt in their use.

Like this guy who does it because he thinks it's funny. (which is why he's so on the defensive about skippy when most others don't agree with him).
You could even say...he started the use of the word skippy in this thread and even had to explain its use (even now he's doing it).

Naw, just borrow money for all the social programs. They all just pay for themselves as the budgets balance themselves.

Understanding, respecting, and using the term “Skippy” is simply a must for any politically savvy non-partisan gentleman.

But yes PP because nobody in their right mind is spelling out Poielevere

Says the guy continuously giving a history lesson on the word skippy here trying to normalize it because people at first didn't even know what you were talking about, and you really really really want to call him that.

You are aware that the Canadian Prime Minister is much different than the American President right?
He doesnt have the same power to just...'snap his fingers' when they want something done and then everyone just...has to do it?
If a Calgarian were Prime Minister tomorrow and wanted a pipeline from Vancouver to Halifax he couldn't just 'make it happen' regardless of opinion or representation or preference.
Ironically as Canadians....we just don't get along with each other. We're more like squabbling siblings trying to get one up on each other than a Nation keen on working together for the benefit of everyone.

Are you suggesting JT's laws that get bemoaned about actually had very little to do with the inability to build pipelines? There are other factors at play?

Ah, the history of skippy. Beautiful.
Now quote all the posts where you take issue with people calling Trudeau/Singh nicknames.
I’ll wait.

I do find it fin that the same people who viscerally hated hated political nicknames before and attacked people who used them like bulldogs are now perfectly okay with them now that the derisive nicknames like 'Cheeto President' or 'Skippy' now align with their political preferences.
Theres a certain satisfying hypocrisy to it.

I think it's fine to throw shade at guys like Trump. He's shown an absolute disregard for respect of any sort, so he doesn't get any. And sure, I've thrown a few Millhouses out, but that's only because of his uncanny resemblance. Millhouse is way too cool to be like PP in any other way.

Milhouse, I think, is funny. Largely because, as you said he looks like Milhouse. But everyone loves Milhouse! He's the lovable loser, I dont consider that an insult. Except from the people who remember that Nixon's middle name was Milhouse...and thats the joke.
PP? I'm going to have acknowledge that I cant be bothered to spell his name out every single time. So unless someone is a literal child who gets a chuckle out of that I think a standard abbreviation is probably copacetic.

If there is any positive from a Trump government; a lot of people will now have to wake up about their own part in stunting Canada's economy.
