Maybe Poitras if you're willing to take a chance on a guy who has regressed a bit but clearly has high end passing skills in the middle even if he's a bit small and seems to get hit hard. Moore's maybe a fit on position and profile as well as far as the flames needs but he's having a bad year. They do have two firsts that are potentially very good though so if one of those is on the table you probably take a lesser prospect.
|
They have probably the most valuable firsts available though.
As it stands right now their pick is 12th OV, and Toronto's is 14th OV. (Which is actually 12th and 13th because Ottawa's pick is forfeited).
If they are willing to include the Leafs first that would be a big get, because non-playoff teams aren't usually moving their firsts. And the Bruins scouts might be saying they don't love the guys in that 10-15 range and are willing to move one of those picks.
2026 Leafs 1st and Poitras would be a great return IMO.

I would think Calgary does that deal instantly if they are unprotected, with how erratic both of those teams have been you could easily end up with a top ten pick there. Currently picks 13 and 18 - *edit* with how bad the west is even higher? That's an overpay. I can't see Boston moving both of them anyway, I would guess for an older player like this based on past trade value at best we'd be looking at a conditional first where we get the lower of the two if the supporting pieces are weaker than what another team like Dallas, SJ, Detroit or whoever are offering.
Most of the other deals we've seen in past or rumors we've been hearing are for a borderline or lower end NHLer like Bischel or Bourque who is still young and a pick likely to be 25-32 with a second tier prospect like Hemming or Schmidt. So basically a bunch of depth pieces in all likelihood, so I think even getting a crack at one pick in the 15-20 range where you could draft a potential impact player would be much better from a quality perspective.

Conroy is most surely handcuffed himself by ownership, and unable to make any sort of futures move until the situation becomes far more obviously dire.

I have said it before, this is not true. There is no handcuffs on Conroy by any ownership. He has full control on transactions

I can second this, I've heard of no handcuffing either.
Craig's set the price, ownership are aware of the price and good with it as well.
Should the price need to shift, I'm sure the two would chat, but Craig has full authority to do as he feels is best for the franchise.

Using the 1st + a good prospect price, I’d want a 2026 1st + Dean Letourneau.

Based on those draft positions, that value is very close to the Dobson trade. Dobson was exchanged for 2 picks in the teens + Heineman.
I know a lot of people hang their hats on age, but the gap between Dobson and Andersson is 3 years, 2 months. It isn't as big as some people here play it up to be.
Considering their point production this year is nearly identical (Andersson has more goals, Dobson has more assists) it isn't that crazy to believe Andersson can get 2 picks back... and Heineman is actually doing pretty good this year so that Dobson trade would even further increase the value of Andersson if there is an extension in place.

Ship out Ras before the Boston game and he can just walk over to the other locker room. Hagens straight up or 2 1sts would be a dream. Id take an unprotected 1st and a 2nd to be honest. Coleman would be worth at least a 1st if 50% retained. The team will get 2 playoff runs with him. We would still have Kadri, Weegar, Backlund, Lomberg, Huberdeau as leaders on the team....that is more than enough.
Trade other depth pieces if others come calling, like Pachal, Hanley, etc.

|
Yeah the points back is always misleading. It's the number of teams you have to out perform and climb over that is key. Due to teams playing each other, the overtime points, etc, some of those teams are going to get points on a regular basis. So if you have a lot of teams between you and a playoff spot, it doesn't really matter that you are "only 5 points back", the odds are stacked against you.

Sharks have circled back about Andersson. Currently in talks with 3 teams for a right shooting defenseman. Was told 1 of the talks is much further than the other 2 (wasn't told which of the 3 is further along). Other 2 defenseman are from Eastern conference teams (Hamilton I believe is one).

Craig has wanted a young RH shot center for a while.
If Boston is involved I'd guess a 2026 1st (Leafs) and Poitras would be the ask or something like that.

Don’t want to throw Potter into anything at this point; he’s torching the NCAA right now and seemingly getting better and better by the game. I think we have a steal there.
