If I'm the Oilers I would have taken Bickell over Nikitin.

At least Bickell has some playoff experience and comes from a winning team. Plus he has had flashes of being able to produce when playing with skilled players, and adds some needed size to the forward ranks.

Extra year on the contract, but at least he is serviceable, and expires before they have to re-sign any of the next young stars.

Bickell is not worth the money for even one year, let alone two. They'd be stupid to make that trade.

At the end of this year, Nikitin's deal is gone and they can forget it was ever signed.

Its dead money. I'd rather have 1 less year of dead money.

The extra year doesn't hurt them too much though because they don't have any major contracts to renegotiate until 2 years from now.

That team needs to bring in some guys who have some real playoff experience and have won before.

Bickell isn't a great player but he is a guy who has been a part of 3 Blackhawks cup winning teams, has produced in the playoffs in the past, and has played pretty much everywhere in the Hawks lineup.

Sure $4 million is a lot of money, but really he would just be a placeholder for the money they need to re-sign McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nurse in a couple years.

Give me a guy who may be overpaid, but can actually still contribute and play a role. Over a player like Nikitin who is going to be sitting in the press box every night. Especially since that extra year is pretty much a non-factor when it comes to cap management for the Oilers.

IMO Bickell is dead weight for the Hawks who are completely cash strapped, but the Oilers will have the space, he expires at the right time, and is a better player than Nikitin who is deadweight on every NHL roster.

Hell I think I'd rather have Bickell at $4million, then Raymond at $3.1, at least with Bickell you know you get a guy who can play bottom 6, be physical, and is a big body you need come playoff time.

I don't see how this is of use to the Oilers.

Ladd contract talks with the Jets have stagnated:

Considering stopping negotiations once season starts.

Red Wings currently waiting for the results of MRI for an injured Danny DeKeyser.

If he is out longterm, they could be looking for a top 4 d-man or someone that could fit that role in the interim.

Friedman on Brayden Schenn:

Quote:
17. Hextall did not want to talk about Brayden Schenn, but word is he received several calls about the forward after being quoted as saying “I think he’s been ok” during camp. The sense from outside is Hextall didn’t mean for it to come across as badly as it was portrayed, and I’m not sure it’s a guarantee Schenn will be traded — as we all assumed after we heard that.

“Put it this way,” another exec said. “If he wants to trade Brayden Schenn, he could very easily do it.”

Edmonton has enough forwards. Bickell isn't gonna help them much plus that extra year is definitely unnecessary. Niktin at least plays defence (however good you think he does it) and an expiring contract is way more valuable.

You say this, but everyone was thinking you could never get Hamilton for less than a Bennett / JG / Brodie.

#NHLBruins have assigned Anton Blidh, Chris Breen, Brandon DeFazio, Brian Ferlin, Alex Khokhlachev to #AHLBruins.

Cannot remember where the Khoklachev article was but he has been sent down, I'll bet he is none too pleased.
