The Flames need good depth guys with size to ride shot gun with their smaller skilled players. A guy like Hunter Smith might be the guy that makes the room needed for a guy like Baertschi to become a dominant offensive force.

That's fine to want others I just think you are selling Smith's upside way too low.
His ceiling is higher than Brian Boyle for sure.

Boyle's career high in points is 35. If Smith gets that many down the road, we'll all be thrilled.

Myth.

The upshot of this is players did indeed seem to be more productive if they had larger teammates back in the early expansion era, but it doesn’t look like this is true anymore.

Dude, you need to catch up with the new era.

What happened with Minnesota's 6th (160)? Did they forfeit it? NHL.com has them with no selection.

If he turned into Brian Boyle I would be very happy with the puck but his ceiling is higher.

The thing is, this draft is meant to be pretty weak. The top 4 have first line potential, and beyond that it's apparently pretty sketchy for top 6 forwards and top defencemen. If you spot a gem of a grinder like Hunter Smith who you know is going to contribute you may as well snap him up instead of rolling the dice on a player with a supposed higher ceiling who scouts feel is a long shot to even make it (thus explaining why they are ranked so far outside of the 1st round). That's the impression I get from this draft, anyway.
Guys like McKeown and Karlsson were passed on multiple times by several teams. You have to assume that there are red flags about these players which all the main scouts didn't pass on to the media reports. Hunter Smith has been rising up the charts all year. He may have limited upside but he is someone who scouts think it a sure thing.
I know we've been burned by 'sure things' before... Just have to hope this time we get a little bit of luck.

Good Adam Ollas Mattson.
I really like this pick. He was the first guy I took in the CPHL draft last week.

He's a big physical defenseman.
