I’m sure they would rather not, but in a pinch, if the Flames are unhappy with offers on trades for players it is most certainly a viable option.

So have you seen enough discussion to enter an answer to the poll question? :-)

I wonder how many pages of discussion we will see once he finally signs. Under over of 35

This thread has been going since May and hasn't hit 35 pages yet. Once he signs, we'll actually have games to talk about and stuff, so I'd say significantly fewer than 35 pages.

Yup. Thankfully we still have another week before the season starts, so here's hoping this finally gets done before then. Whatever the sticking point is, I'm sure both sides want this over and done with as quickly as possible.
If he's not signed by puck drop on Oct. 3rd, I'm worried that this might turn into a big unnecessary distraction, which is the last thing this team needs heading into the season.

When Gaudreau signed, the signing thread didn't make it to 650 posts. That would be a good over/under for a Tkachuk signing thread.

But for some reason, it'll get bumped randomly every few months and years with a random thought on Tkachuk because so many people are against just starting new threads

I wonder how last year’s playoff performance has factored into this negotiation.

Top paid player in the league has made the playoffs 1 time in 4 years
Marner couple points lost in first round 11M
Point swept in first round
It really isnt much of a factor as much as Flames fans demand a discount

To clarify, I just listened to the clip and Friedman said 5-6 years.
5 would be disappointing IMO.

Don’t disagree just wondered whether playoff success gets discussed.
In a perfect world player compensation would be tied to playoff performance.

In 5 years, I guess.
I’m not making plans 5 years out

I mean, yeah I'll take a 5 year deal at this point if the alternative is a holdout.
But I'd prefer a 6/7/8 year deal but that might not be feasible given the cap situation.

If Tkachuk wants 5, then he can have 5 as long as he is willing to take somewhat of a discount.

Fair comment.
I just think the next 3-5 years is a bit of a window of contention for this team with Norris Gio, and the current set of players and contracts.
A lot of changes happen in 5 years. It was a typical long contract term before the cap era, then we had a few outrageous 13-14 year deals, then the renegotiation with term cap at 8.
I get that Tkachuk is 21 and 8 years locks down his whole prime. I know that 5 years walks him to UFA. I actually prefer a bridge deal. But 5 years for now leaves little to worry about for this window.
