Taking a while to get to 5000

That sounds like the Flames want the 2 prospects, and a 1st? He says 1st and a prospect then says this player and that player.

Yeah the problem is if neither of those guys is on the table, they have nothing of interest.
I understand them not wanting to move Yak, but they should 100% be willing to part with Hensler.
But after those guys, I'm squinting at their prospect lsits and I see nothing.

If Yak is part of a package, I'd be ok lowering the ask on the + as part of that deal.
Getting an A prospect alone would be worthy of consideration for moving Ras, IMO.

I think it's more of a general statement of what teams are looking to get back in return for a top 4 D: "Yakemchuk isn't available, okay so how about Hensler?". At least I understood it as teams asking about both rather than looking to get both.

Neither have a play style that seems like its hanging on a precipice. I would wager that Coleman doesnt lose any effectiveness over his current contract. Kadri, 3 season after this. If he does see a steep decline in play, I dont see it until the very tailend of his contract.
So yes, thats always a concern, but given what we've seen so far I dont see value plummeting anytime where it affects the Flames trade window (this season, offseason, next season)

That is all true but when it comes to timing these things, it is better to be 6 months early than one day late.
The thing is, we aren't going anywhere with this team anyway, so keeping them is accomplishing anything. That being the case, there is no downside to trading them early. There is however, a large downside to waiting too long. Because once Father Time does his thing, it's over.

I saw some rumors today that Ottawa circled back on Andersson, but the Flames are asking for Yakemchuk; meanwhile, Staios doesn't want to move Yak, or Hensler.
It turned out to be is a couple of days old by Garrioch:

The most encouraging news are that the Flames are asking for a 1st + A prospect. Hopefully they get it.
|
I would do Andersson for a 2027/2028 1st (2027 top 3 lottery protected, 2028 1st unprotected if Ottawa won the lottery). They are a volatile team, so that 2028 1st could be something special. Or even the 2027 pick based on how competitive the East is.
Add in Jensen that we could flip at 50% and a very good forward prospect, or a 2nd in 2027/2028 instead (2nd in the year we don't get a 1st).
Andersson for Jensen + 2027/2028 1st + 2027/2028 2nd. We can retain 50% on Jensen to a contending team for an additional 3rd or 4th.

To talk about the Jets, I think they are going to hope this year is an anomaly, when it's not. The Wild went all in and grabbed Hughes to compete with top dog Avs and Stars, that's why those top 3 teams are absolute killer in the West right now. If the Jets want to compete for a WC spot next season (I think they're okay with drafting a top pick this season and retooling), they will be going hunting for some good players in the offseason. Scheifele needs help.
I hope they're calling about Kadri. I think we could get a 2027 1st + Yager for Kadri. They've got some expiring contracts and with the cap going up we wouldn't have to take on a dump.

some of you would have traded Kadri, Coleman, and Ras for a bag of bucks and a 3rd with your lack of poker skills

I'd hope that in any trade Calgary is getting players and prospects that the other team doesn't really want to move. Conroy needn't accept cast-offs. I mean, if Ottawa is serious about challenging now, they need to pay something and sacrifice some futures.

Apparently, Sherwood is drawing interest but the Canucks are being low balled currently. 17G-4A-21 PT, 30 years old, pending UFA. If you're Dallas, is there a preference between Sherwood and Coleman? Coleman is 34, 13G-8A-21 PT.
Edit - I think if I'm Dallas GM, I'll go with whichever one comes at a cheaper price. Comparable players for me, maybe lean Coleman for experience.

Sherwood feels like a new late bloomer. I take the seasoned low risk vet easily over him for a short run. His contract being a new one makes him likely pricier too. Coleman is better for their timeline and cap restrictions

Sherwood started out on fire but has cooled significantly. Has 5 G and 1 A in his last 20 games. Had 12 G and 3 A in the first 21 games.
In Comparison. Coleman has 6G and 7 A in his last 20 games.

Also, Coleman has a track record, playoff experience, leadership, and two rings.
Sherwood is a good plan B, but that's it. Coleman is a step above him.

Draft Pick

On Barn Burner today, Rhett was on a trade Parekh rant. Not suggesting we will or should trade him, but curious as to what young drafted players would be of comparable value. Power? Yakemchuk? Misa? McTavish?
