Oh #### we've got a live one in this thread!
Tell us, how does it feel to be so completely duped by her majesty Marliana?
Do you honestly think she has your best intentions on hand and not just her friends and rich donors? Her veil is completely see through.

They want to avoid feeling any shame, cause shame can lead to changing ones poor behavior. But it feels icky so they fight reality.

Sure, sounds good in theory. Try that angle in a heated emotional discussion (as politics often is), and see where that gets you. You have to give your opponent some way to backtrack and save face.
But whatever floats your boat. I voted NDP. I just don’t feel the need to tell UCP voters they’re stupid and should concede that they were wrong because I think that’s counterproductive.

Callouts aren’t meant to be productive. You’d have to be pretty naive to think spitting contempt and scorn at someone is going to make them see the light and join your team. No, the callouts - like 90 per cent of political speech - are meant to earn high-fives from people who are already on your team.

Throwing the word “socialist” around like it’s an insult is the most republican thing ever, along with being a racist bigot.

I'm getting this in person now with family. Apparently if you aren't an ardent UCP or Conservative supporter, you're a stinkin socialist.
Wild that we're seeing a new version of McCarthyism in 2020's Alberta.

Nothing new in this province, that sort of fascist 'othering' has been going on for a long time. 'Socialist' and 'liberal' have been used as epithets by conservatives in this province for as long as I can remember.

Nobody who posts in this thread is naive enough to have accidentally voted for this obvious disaster simply because she is on team blue. They knew exactly who she is, and what she would do, and chose that path. So tenderness and kindly pointing out how ####ing stupid or evil they are isn't going to change any minds. They've foisted this disaster of a government on us that has real consequences and real negative effects on our lives and the lives of those we love and care about, and I have no problem calling them out for that. So #### them, because they've ####ed us, and are gleeful about that ####ing.

Don't worry, somewhere along the line Nenshi will offer financial support to women, or the environment, or the LGBTQ community and it'll be 'I would have voted for Nenshi, but...'

It's the point of discussion in threads like this, or generally to people in your circle, to move them away from the edge. Regular people are needed to build bridges that the would be UCP voter can cross over. So if someone won't vote for the NDP because they are socialist, calmly explain how the Alberta NDP are not socialist. If they believe that the school system is rigged, calmly explain to them how it is not.
So far the most convincing argument against the UCP has been the actions of the UCP.
The NDP's biggest failure has been not reaching out to the conservative voter, and that's why there is hope surrounding Nenshi.

I hate that my only reasonable choices are a corrupt government beholden to wealthy benefactors and a spendthrift left-wing party. Neither represents me but it’s NDP by default.

What wasteful spending did the NDP do, and how is it worse and noteworthy to point out vs the UCP's wasteful spending? Why is it only non-Conservative parties that get singled out for "wasteful" spending?

It's not just the left that are 'spendthrift'. The UCP gave away $1.4 billion of our province's money on a pipeline to nowhere - the single greatest financial disaster this province has ever seen. If anything conservatives and the UCP are worse in that department than the 'left-wing' party.

In 2018 the 2018/19 budget was 56.2 billion. This year the 24/25 budget is 73.2 billion a 30.2% increase. Inflation has been 19% and pop growth 11% for a total of 32.1% assuming linear increase of expenses for adding people.
So the Conservatives have not meaningfully changed spending in this province since taking power. They have continued the spendthrift ways that the NDP started.
We need to quit characterizing the cons as fiscal stewards and the NDP as spendthrifts.

Getting our crude to markets is an important issue and one that has surfaced due to a lack of investment and planning for a long time. Even Notley knew of this importance as she signed an almost $4B crude by rail deal

Moneyguy as others have already said and pointed out but this needs to be called out for a serious misrepresentation at this point. You follow this thread actively. To suggest that the NDP blow through cash like a drunken sailer while not holding the UCP to the same degree, especially in the light of the last 4/5 years, is disingenuous at best.
