You guys make these posters way worse by a flood of responses making their presence exponentially worse.
Like how many examples of these posters do you guys need before it ####ing clicks that responding to them does nothing but clog up the thread?
They're gonna post garbage regardless. But as we've seen in the past, if they get enough pushback then eventually their polite facade disappears and they post as their "true self", which usually includes enough racist and bigoted material to earn a ban. Then we can enjoy at least a temporary reprieve

It would be a lot quicker if they got zero engagement. A LOT quicker. And with dozens less posts. Just move on and stop magnifying their bull####.

Actually, it is the opposite of what you suggest. Ignoring them allows them to freely post lies and disinformation, which our community should NEVER stand for. If they are allowed to freely post disinformation it can have negative effects. The fact that this community is willing to stand up, call out the lies, and direct readers who may be influenced by such trash to sources of truth is a great service. Doing so and allowing the spread of such disinformation is a blight that needs to be stamped out, and those that have lived in the shadows where racism, homophobia, and intolerance have lurked need to be pushed back under the rocks they have crawled out from beneath.

Wrong. They are not here to be persuaded in another direction and everyone immediately sees what these guys are all about.
The posts from everyone trying to change their mind or point out the lies are just masturbatory. You're not doing anything helpful, stop deluding yourself.

You are aware that other people read this board? Crushing such propaganda is pretty much a public service as it prevents others who may be open to such nonsense to see the views are abhorrent and the information is disinformation. I don't give a #### about changing the mind of some ####ed up loser like FireItUp. What I care about is the impressionable minds that may be reading this thread and see the disinformation posted go unchallenged and think they may be some truth to what is said. Disinformation like this is a gateway to going down rabbit holes that many people never escape. If we have the ability to act as a community and prevent a single young impressionable mind from falling into the trap laid, then it is worth the investment of time and space on the board.
yeah, but it's been 8 years, with a lot of damaging events, evidence, and media coverage.
If someone hasn't figured out by now that Trump is no good, that's on them, not us.
Make better use of your time. You will never convince someone who still supports Trump after all this ####.
It's not just about Trump. And yes, people are still be swayed over his authoritarian tendencies because of disinformation. Just because you think Trump is full of #### there are still a lot of people out there who maybe have not yet made up their minds.
This is a systemic problem that needs all people to participate in. If you're not part of the solution, you're an appeaser and part of the problem. We can't just rely on our governments to manage disinformation because so much of it is created and spread through social media. This is now part of our civic responsibility IMO. Our democracy will only remain healthy if we safeguard it.
"For example, researchers know that false and misleading claims are believed more when they are repeated and can have measurable impacts on beliefs, attitudes and behaviours, both directly and indirectly by shaping ideological narratives, and that corrections and fact checks are only partially effective, even when people have no motivation to cling to a false piece of information."
"In the United States, recent polls have shown nearly 70% of Republicans question the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election. This is a direct result of disinformation from Donald Trump, the loser of that election."
Direct result of disinformation. We need to correct disinformation before it has a chance to take root.
From a really interesting conference on the issue and just how important some really smart people, including Barack Obama, think this issue is. This is a very long video but some really interesting discussion that may interest those without the attention span of gnat.
Bottom line, we need to remain engaged to protect our democracy. When we disengage there are those out there who benefit from that and can forward their disinformation without factcheck or proper rebuttal. It's how so many Republicans got swept up into a cult.

Lanny, I teach specifically to disavow misinformation, and give my students the tools to figure out things or themselves in a truly non-partisan way. I'm doing my part, but I've also had students that will not listen to reason no matter what I say, and what's worse, they've complained to my Dean to try and get me fired. There is no helping some people, and anyone who is still on the fence is just doing so to get attention. It's not because they can't discern disinformation from real information, it's because they're sad attention whores.

Trump is unravelling; he's claiming that pictures and videos from a crowd at the airport for Harris is generated by AI and that's election interference so she should be disqualified.
I simply can't comprehend how someone can see that and think that that kind of disconnect from reality is a good thing for a president.

"undecided voters" are just people embarrassed to admit publicly that they're voting for Trump
Some of them, sure. But a lot of them are working class people barely making ends meet, and while they are disgusted by Trump, they think inflation is Joe's fault, and they are considering voting Trump back in for economic reasons. This is why it's important to counter misinformation, and inform people that Trump did more to worsen their economic situation than help it.

I was just reading that story and was going to post here about it. It feels like we are living in the Twilight Zone. In more sane times, a political candidate who made such a demonstrably untrue statement would have quickly become a laughing stock and their campaign would be over. For some unknown reason, Trump can say and do the most unhinged, crazy things and it’s barely a blip on the news cycle. Half the freaking country is blind to the fact that he’s a complete idiot.

I think Trump is trying to lay the groundwork to contest a hypothetical electoral defeat as he did in 2020.

Gotta say I’m with you on this one. This is a discussion board and collectively people stood up, Did we reach the poster? Most likely not, but there are always lurkers out there and they may get steered correctly and that’s a good thing. In addition, there was a genuine attempt by some to draw out the underlying reasons for support. That’s a good thing in my opinion, we need to talk and understand each other.
All of this does come to a point, if it’s clear there’s no way to have dialogue and there’s no willingness to engage, then you step away. I engaged with the poster on the racism topic, I suspected I wouldn’t get a response, but wanted to try. Now that they haven’t I know the poster isn’t actually interested in a dialogue and have moved on.
