Why isn't Vladdy coming in for Fisher?

I really thought that was the perfect time to slot in Vladdy.
I guess they want to save him for the catcher spot for the 7th.

Just terrible managing. Down a run, bases loaded, 2 out and they let Fisher hit, with Vladdy on the bench. I don't really understand why Fisher is even on this team.

My guess is that Montoyo forgot that this is a 7 inning game and thought there was more time to use Vladdy.

Still mad about Montoyo letting Fisher to hit in 6th, the guy has a .191 AVG in 388 AB's. He isn't a major league player. Time to send Fisher down, call up Davis or McKinney.

McGuire cost them that game.
Montoyo's use of the bench didn't help.

Probably didn't put Vladdy in there because they still had top of the 7th to play and with Vladdy in and Tellez in I'm not sure how they could structure their defense. I'm too lazy to look into possible combos but it was likely the reason.
I don't have much confidence in Vladdy right now anyways. I'm sure he would have grounded out if they had him pinch hit for Fisher there.

Tellez was pulled for a pinch hitter before Fisher came up. Putting players in positions on defense in the 7th wouldn't have been an issue.

"Fisher was a good matchup and we thought he had a chance to hit that guy. That's why we left him to hit. That's the main reason. We were talking before the game. 'He's got a chance to hit a home run today.' We had that feeling. He just didn't do it." - Montoyo
This is an insane justification.

Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes. We as fans only see tactical decisions. We don’t really see mentoring or teaching. If he is doing those things effectively than I can deal with some drop off in tactics. Anyway Fisher was a pretty good prospect so they are going to keep giving him chances. It’s not like it’s going to matter that much they will likely make the playoffs with Detroit falling back. I guess if you’re that upset over seeding.

With all 3 games of the 1st being played at the home teams stadium, seeding probably still matters. I will concede that that advantage isn't as big this year, but teams will still look for any advantage possible.

You could have said the same thing about Teoscar 2 years ago when he played 134 games to a total of .3 war. Now he’s our best (or second best with Bo) hitter. I think you need a bit more than 110 ABs to write off a prospect. Of course they did write off Pompey and Alford, but they had them much longer in the minors than Fisher.

Yeah, patience has really paid off with Teo and Grichuk (hopefully they are for real). It's also starting to pay off with Tellez too.
Will Fisher go down the Drury route, or the above mentioned guys?

Who knows but they have shown with Drury that they’re willing to cut bait on their own guys as well. I’m curious what is going to happen with the catching situation if they bring up Kirk.

Fisher is already 27. He has over 400 career AB’s with absolutely abysmal offensive metrics. And his defence has been just as bad. You could argue that his best attribute is speed, but even then it’s just slightly above average. I get that management has likely given him a longer leash because they gave up a lot for him but he really shouldn’t be seeing much playing time at this point.

Shouldn’t they be fighting for seeding? 8th place will get you a matchup with the Rays. And we all know how that will go. The Jays have put themselves in a great position to move up in the standings so there’s no excuse not to try and get the best position they can.
