Scene from episode 1, might be spoilery:

The thing I don't like are the Picard / Riker sharing personal moments. They're so awkward. I liked the rest.

The changeling / shapeshifter stuff is too deus-ex level for me though. Also - how did he know they were going to be on the Titan to search for Crusher and son?

Another solid episode. Loved that scene between Picard and Crusher. Terrific acting by both of them IMO.

And I thoroughly enjoyed the Wrath of Khan-style nebula chase/battle.

Not sure yet if I like the Worf/Raffi team up, but I'm curious to see where it's going.

That....was clunky.

Pretty much every character was...'out of character.'

"Hey, the Captain is starting to be good, we should get rid of him."

And McFadden isnt even trying anymore. She only had one or two decent scenes.

All it was missing was a 'Shut Up Wesley' but directed at Jack.

Raffi and Worf was the best part of that episode...

you know what, I'm gonna agree with you on the Raffi parts not being that bad this week. her exasperation towards philosophy spouting Buddha Worf was pretty funny to me. but they did kill the chamomile tea joke with bad editing, that could have been executed so much better.

Patrick Steward re-discovered a bit of his acting chops in the argument with Crusher, but yea his scenes with Riker continue to not be good. just so much grinning and winking and every line has to be mega witty, like at least try and pretend you're Picard and Riker instead of Patrick and Jonathan being way too giddy to be on screen together again. I didn't like Troi's angry mom call for the same reason, that wacky space Karen has no relation to the stoic Betazoid from before.

the giggly Picard/Riker thing also undermines their argument over command later on, which seems to just come out of nowhere instead of something that had been slowly brewing underneath. I'm finally starting to get used to the dark lighting on the ship but now I have 2 requests...please for the love of Nagilum figure out how to not have bridge crew fatally wounded by the ship shaking around and consoles exploding, it's the 25th century already. and put the freaking camera on a stand when shooting characters talking to each other, I'm getting motion sick from the cameraman struggling to hold his equipment up.

Riker is a changling, he's become the conservative cowardly one, and just does dumb things.

I really hate the insistence on every scene being in the dark,

I think its kinda funny that they put the two hammiest terrible actors together with Raffi and Worf. Its almost like or Freaking Corn Flakes and Picard can act, lets not pollute that.

Saying that the Captain was just getting to be good and they replaced him with CornFlakes is kinda wrong. Like I said this was actually a good Captain all along and Pikard and Riker were the terrible Star Fleet Officers.

Until the moment they got exactly what they wanted and then they each did a complete 180.

How come the changeling that worf caught didn't kill both Raffi and worf? We know how strong changelings are, and we know that physical handcuffs/ chains are futile against them. So why did that changeling allow themselves to be caught?

Or are they just nerfing changeling powers?

IMO the splinter cell faction of changelings is lazy. If they were going to do changelings, they should go all out. Rene passed away last year, so they could wrap in that Odo passed away and thus the balance of the great link was swapped back to hawkish.

The only positive here is that we could get a gem hadar/ vorta episode.

Enterprise ending pissed me off. Yes it took awhile to find it's legs and figure out an identity other than "Tee hee, we snuck in this alien that humanity doesn't officially meet for several hundred years". But season 4 was excellent and they axed it just as it hit it's stride. The fact that Discovery is getting one more season than Enterprise is a travesty

It is a classic play from the Star Trek writer's playbook. A once overpowered enemy becomes weaker so the main characters can easily handle them so it can fit in a new plot. Classic example are how the borg got nerfed.

I'm fuzzy but weren't the Horta pretty much wiped out in the end?

I really wasn't all that interested in the Founders after DS9, I think they were dealt with properly.

Why not bring back those brain bug parasite thingies that tried to take over the Federation.

I mean so far the whole don't trust anyone in Starfleet from episode one hasn't born any fruit.

Speaking of trusting people and things born, last time the shapeshifters infiltrated Starfleet and replaced a bunch of people, didn't those people's kids notice?

Its been awhile since I've watched DS9. Odo was fine without going back to the Great Link and didn't dissolve into putty. He just needed to go back to his bucket every now and then.

So why did the emo-changeling go into withdrawl from not being with the Great Link? If he really was a changeling he could have ducked into an alley and turned into a bird and fly away like Odo often did.

Spoiler!

Who knows, maybe they hooked him on the Jem'Hadar juice? Or maybe he had that changeling disease that Odo got that one time that only the great lake could cure?

so we've got Honey Bunny and Changelings so far and we know that Lore is going to roll up to the party as well. any other new or recurring villains want to join this season too, just to make it even more zany? how about Armus piloting a stolen shuttle craft with his black gooey hands? or the Crystalline Entity's kids putting on Starfleet uniforms to blend in so they could hoover up the old cast in revenge?

my understanding is that S2 suffered from a severe bout of ADHD, I desperately don't want the same to happen here but there are some warning signs early on.

I've been wondering about the Lore thing, because wasn't he basically dismantled and his emotion chip removed with his last words being I love you brother as Data unscrewed his head and did a 360 degree tomahawk jam on the Enterprise basket ball court?

So I'm curious how they bring him back?

And please don't point to the whole B4 stupidity of someone finding the parts that were randomly lost.

They don’t need to bring him back, Lore’s “consciousness” is probably stuck somewhere. I mean, it’s 24th century, surely people didn’t forget that you need to make backups of important information or your brain.

can't you recreate his entire consciousness and memories from a single positron? that's how it worked with Data stuck in VR in season 1 right?
