Just bizarre from Suarez. He lost control completely. It looks worse every time I see it, and he didn't even wait for the ball to come in to the box, it was still in play.
It hasn't gone down well with club at all. The next few days will tell a lot. I still think we should keep him, but we need to help him. I'm not really concerned about the vilification in the media, because that's been happening for ages. We just need to be clear where we stand with him and take it from there.
He's looking at a 10 match ban though.
|
Well, he almost has to be kept at this point. Surely this would not help his transfer value whatsoever. He's both an incredible talent, and a complete nut-job. Nothing else I can say here really.

You should try getting up to speed on the rules and reading your own links.

You're always so pleasant. The point is that it is possible that it could be determined that the ref dealt with this incident too since he went right over to them when it happened.

He already said a few days ago that he was staying at Liverpool. He's actually said it a few times. I don't think the club want to sell him either. I mean he's scored 30 goals this season, and he's a world class player. If they care about winning you can't sell someone like that. I think his desire to win at all costs just pushes him over the edge.
If they feel the club's reputation is being tarnished or damaged, it might be a different story.
For now they've come out and said the incident has no bearing on his future at the club, but he'll be helped.

Another idiotic Fifa rule.
The ref already gave him a yellow so now we are powerless to give any retroactive punishment.
Just so dumb.

No, the point was he clearly didn't know the rules as stated by talking about a suspension in the context of a already delivered yellow card.
And pleasant? This is a dream ending to the season for me.
The icing on the cake would be if Handball Hannibal's goal costs Chelsea a top 4 finish.
And Matt, agreed. I can't think of any rational reason for that rule being in place.
And he's been charged.
Quote:
It is alleged that the conduct of Suarez constitutes violent conduct and it is The FA’s contention that the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient in these circumstances.
Suarez has until 6pm on Tuesday 23 April to respond to the charge, thereafter an Independent Regulatory Commission will be convened this Wednesday, 24 April.

The yellow card doesn't make a difference, except to show that the ref dealt with the incident. There doesn't HAVE to be a card though, as shown by the McManaman incident earlier this year where no foul was called, but the play was determined to have been dealt with. That could have been the case in Suarez's scenario, but it doesn't appear to be now that he has been charged.

The interesting thing about the Defoe bite is that the FA said they could punish him further if they determined the incident to be "extraordinary".
"There won't be any further action taken against Jermain Defoe because we are not able to take any," an FA spokesman said after Soho Square took an entire day to conclude its deliberations. "If a referee deals with an incident, which he did, we are not allowed to retrospectively take disciplinary action in terms of upgrading or downgrading cards.
"The only exception to that is in terms of a very serious case, such as that of Ben Thatcher, where if the offence is deemed to be such that even if he had been sent off it would have warranted a further charge. In such a situation we can then bring that further charge. I don't think anyone is suggesting that that is the case here."

So, according to the FA's own words, Suarez shouldn't be banned for more then 3 games since biting an arm isn't outside of the regular violent conduct boundaries.
Just to be clear, I'm not attempting to defend him. It was wrong and he deserves the ban he gets, but it would be very hypocritical of the FA to ban him for more then 3 games.

Guard of honour... GUARD OF BLOODY HONOUR???????????????????????? #VanPursestrings
@piersmorgan
Arsenal fans should picture Gazidis & Wenger standing, smiling & applauding #VanPursestrings during his guard of honour. Then demand change.
@piersmorgan
Look at Ferguson - the fire/hunger still burns through every one of his blood red facial veins. I want a manager like that at Arsenal.
@piersmorgan
3-0 up, Champions, but Ferguson's still screaming furiously at his players. THAT'S the difference. #winner

That's pretty funny. Well done cam.
Further to this saga:
(from the BBC)
The FA said the match officials had not seen it during the game at Anfield and it had been "retrospectively reviewed".
It added that, while the standard punishment for violent conduct was a three-match ban, that was "clearly insufficient in these circumstances".
As I said earlier, it will be interesting to see what they do in this case. I've heard anywhere between 3-10 matches for this latest infraction. And I wish I could take credit for bringing up the Defoe-Mascherano angle, but that was all Alan Hansen on MOTD 2.

I was wondering who that old Manchester United supporter running around in a jersey on the pitch was. Then I realised that it's Ryan Giggs.
