Zadorov with 50% retention + Vancouver's 2024 1st for Tanev.
Flames then trade Zadorov for a 2nd and a 3rd.

That is what I think, that was why I used the term. I have heard nothing in regards to teams intentions on how they see Lindholm long term.

If monohan goes to the knights, I don't really care that much. I don't hate the knights.
But if goes to Edmonton....i might actually get emotional.

Yeah, but he if someone takes him they can flip him out next deadline and he would only carry a cap hit of 2 million if they retained another 50%

It's a 1st round pick. Montreal has put that out there. It's outrageous, not sure they'll get it, but they did for Ben Chariot so what do I know.

Seeing Monahan's goofy smile in an Oilers' jersey is just wrong.

Does Monahan have any trade protection?

Nope. But I do think the dollar value was high on his first and only NHL season riding the shooting percentage he had... Especially given how public he was around how much he liked being in Vancouver.

I think it was Top Shelf Hockey mentioned chatter about Monahan to the Rangers. He didn't have a confirmed source other than it being random internet chatter.
I hope Monahan gets to chase a Cup, anywhere but in Edmonton though.

The Flames should offer to act as a go-between and retain part of his salary and then hold on to him and refuse to complete the trade to Edmonton.
Although, if Monahan is now just a powerplay specialist whose 200 foot game is gone, is that really something the Oilers need to add?

Monahan to the Oilers doesn't make any sense to me anyway.
He's got 17 ES points despite playing 18+ minutes per night, which isn't good production.
He's slow. He's not particularly good at two way play. Not a great PK guy.
Only good aspect is right-handed for faceoffs and good on the PP.
Seems like he would be a better fit with a team that needs PP help like Winnipeg.

It's a no win situation if the player falls the way Kuzmenko has. With hindsight it's easy to say too much, but at the time in those situations you just don't have much choice when a player over performs on their first NHL contract. Canucks would essentially disqualify themselves from future professional free agents coming over from Europe if they cut rope after playing hard ball.
I'd agree with your sentiment more if it was a long term deal, but two years at the cap hit he signed at was reasonable amount even accounting for some regression. That he fell off a cliff was not something you bank on.

It never existed to begin with.

Marek was speculating today that Hertl to the Flames might be a thing. I don't mind it depending on cost of acquisition.

Lmao what a flames thing to do.
Go after 30 year old Hertl, signed until his late 30s.
That would be terrible.
Thankfully Merek has never had a good flames take.
