From the other perspective, I have the wifi version and there's only been one or two times that I'd have preferred to have the 3g model. I have no regrets about saving the $100.

If I were a frequent user of mass transit, I'd want the 3g model, but since I'm not, my Droid is more practical than an iPad 99% of the time when I'm on the go.

It’s a tricky question. I don’t use the 3g as much as I thought I would. The times that I have either wanted to use it, or have actually needed it for work though, its been incredibly useful, and unquestionably worth the money.

Being able to surf while waiting for the kids or wife at whatever activity they have is nice. Being able to keep tabs on the free agent deadline while in a tent camping in Cypress Hills is pretty neat.

Being able to call up technical documents and diagrams from my Dropbox while on the go with no available internet connection because a client’s site has suffered a network implosion is effing priceless.

^ so no... unless you plan on hauling it out with you wherever you go (which i will not).

Essentially i want the Ipad as replacement for my old laptop.. which all i do on is surf the web and play the occasional game on. Also, as something that will double as a e-reader and entertainment system while travelling.

The GPS has been pretty clutch at times as well... I use transit daily so I wouldn't even think about getting the WIFI only one, but I can see other users not getting as much value out of it as me.

The iPad is not a laptop replacement. I’ve had one long enough now to know this for certain.

If you are approaching the device from that perspective you’re gonna be disappointed regardless of the model you purchase.

I would say it depends on what you plan to do with it.

I use transit daily and I don't miss having the 3G. I also don't miss the monthly payment. I read books or play games on it when I am on the train. You could also load videos onto as well and you would be fine without 3G. But it depends on where you are planning to use it and what you plan to do on it. If you use it at home on your WiFi 95% of the time it might not be worth it to have the extra monthly expense.

Of course if you are really on the fence you might as well get the 3G because you can't add it on later.

If you aren’t planning to haul it with you, then you won’t ever really need 3g

I do not really use a laptop for word processing or work. My laptop is simply an internet surfing machine. I want to load books, magazines, music and pictures on it and use it for travelling (ie. on an Airplane or in a hotel room).

Considering for the last few months my Ipod Touch has been my home internet access, i can see it being a huge step up.

My iPad has totally turned into a laptop replacement for me because my power-horse machine is in the basement. I use that for my photo/video editing, but almost everything else runs through the iPad. I've had my laptop upstairs plugged in and it hasn't opened since I picked the iPad up. Like Burninator says, it depends how you use it. If the laptop is your primary computer, then no it will not replace it, but if your laptop is a secondary computer it might be able to (depending on what you use it for).

Completely agree my ipad has replaced the laptop my wife would use consistently.
Also I love it and when i get my first iphone (iphone 4) it should be a nice harmony of products

This just in: The iPad really is NOT like a book. Books don't overheat and shut down.

Dumb lawsuit is dumb, however.

Question: Has anyone successfully used a USA Apple gift card at a Canadian store?

Background: Through a vendor's competition I "won an iPad". However, the vendor didn't send me an iPad; rather, they sent me a $550 Apple gift card. The card was bought from Apple USA, and the Apple Canada website does not redeem them nor have them available.

I'm wondering if these would work at a retail location, or if I have a useless $550 gift card.

Call the Apple store at Market Mall. They always answer the phone. If they can't help you, call 1-800-MY-APPLE. Gift card = cash, and cash = accepted everywhere. I'm sure they'll figure something out for you.

Pinball HD for the iPad is perhaps better than any actual pinball machine I've ever played. I can't stop playing. The jungle level will be the death of me. Damn you Kong. Damn you.

Is that the Visio-type one?

Edit: Whoops. Omnigraffle is the one I'm thinking of.

Not impressed with the dearth of selections in iBooks. I downloaded Amazon's Kindle app. Tons more of what I was looking for.

I like my iPad so far. Got the Speck PixelSkin soft rubber cover for it.

Yeah I'm not crazy about the iBooks store either. I hate searching it on my iPhone (why the hell can't I search and buy in iTunes?), and it has a very lousy selection of technical books.

I own both Omnigraffle on the iPad is really quite good. I only wish it was easier to get files on and off the darn iPad. They really need to address that.

Nice! I was hoping to hear it was as good as it sounds.
