Seems unlikely that hockey people would know more about this guy.

The one bad thing about all the conditions is it will limit Conroy's ability to combine 1st's for trading down potentially.
Not saying that was a plan to do that but makes it harder.

Not a Friedman guy myself, but I can't see what game he'd be playing with that comment.

Sounds like PR spin to me. Players like this are on waivers all the time.

The Giordano path of development happens now and then.
If he's been buried/pushed down, that's not his fault. It's worth the look for a couple of years just to see if he can run with a steady NHL opportunity.

I think in the future GMs are going to want to think those requests over carefully. Like "you can talk to see what their offers might be but you can't tell them they are out of the running". Which is hard to control, but GMs talk to each other. Agents are going to have to be careful too, because they will risk burning too many bridges. Brisson may have screwed Hanifin here and he might be in the Gaudreau situation in the off season - no offer from his desired team and underwhelming offers from other places. And no 8 year deal, obviously.

I think we can withhold judgement until we watch him play. Unless youre following the silver knights closely this and last year.

So Friedman now does PR for the Flames?
Holy crap man....maybe step away for a bit and actually read what you are laying down here.

Sure, the potential is always there that he could turn into the next Giordano. Just like the potential was there for Jankowski to be the best player in the 2012 draft. It didn't turn out that way, but the potential was there.
Enjoy the ride but don't set yourself up for disappointment, I guess.

Friedman is reporting the PR the Flames are putting out. How is that hard to put together?

Yeah, its a difficult thing to get around, but it isnt really out of bounds and you are right, GM's DO talk. Two of them hear that Hanifin is unlikely to sign and word gets around quick.
I also think the kicker here is that Hanifin had to be treated as a rental in almost any respect, its in his best interest to (even if he is getting traded to the team he wants to eventually go to) keep the price of acquisition as low as possible for the team he is going to.

When you accuse someone of lying I have to ask - to what end? Is Friedman trying to protect Conroy in your mind? If so, why? He's not some Flames supporter.

Did someone say he's sought after? From what I've read, it seems like the 1st and potential 2nd are the key pieces in the deal. It sounded like the Flames asked for the dman because they've had him on their radar for a bit and probably think he may be able to be an everyday bottom pairing guy.

Still not good enough to crack Vegas' top six though. If he can't beat out Ben Hutton or Tobias Björnfot for that spot then I have limited expectations.

Well, currently those guys are 7/8, and were even before Hanifin came (until Martinez was on IR as of the 6th), so they are not top 6.
And Lanny says Vegas will be good in 2025-26 because those guys will still be on the roster.

No, but he can be used for PR purposes as he often relays what he hears. A lot of what he says is not his opinion, but what others are saying. There could be plenty of spin put on what is said to him.

Doesn't need to be a gem when you have Oesterle looking like he belongs on my saturday night shinny team.
All he has to be is a serviceable NHL defenceman and teams will want him.

Because Friedman doesnt "report" ANY teams PR. He works for SN not NHL teams.
Nothing he said suggests it came from anywhere but guys he talks to everyday about league issues and goings on.
