His value has never been higher, you trade him for a boatload, not scraps.

Plus there some serious undervaluing of Tkachuck here, some of it is justified because he's hard balling the Flames and looks like a guy who'll leave when he can. But he's a tier 1 pest in this league and puts up great numbers. Tom Wilson on steroids.

Who can and most likely will leave next year as a UFA and teams wont have to pony up anything let alone a boatload. So called scraps are about the only thing the Flames might get.

Thanks, just what we need more of around here..

Please keep the baseless negatively coming, it’s much appreciated.

If Tkachuk expresses interest in re-signing in a place we can trade him why couldn’t we get a fair return?

Even if he doesn’t there are plenty of examples of players getting traded for fair market value with only one year left on their contract.

Agreed. Still need to sign Laine too. Crazy to me that with Johnny in the fold there, signing Laine puts them well over the cap and even with Johnny their roster looks far far worse than the Flames

But if we don’t get what we want do we wait? Not sure we can afford a repeat situation that just happened with Johnny

There was a thread last summer sign Johnny by the time his NTC kicked in or before season or trade him. Lots were saying it wasn’t smart to trade our best player. Got nothing for him

Late firsts and good prospects is better than nothing

Disagree. I would rather lose him for nothing, and be forced to rebuild, than take on Tarasenko's contract, and continue down the current path.

Can we really afford offer sheets before Tkachuk re-signs?
Columbus would be laughing when they draft 1st overall in 2024

Worse teams just looking at the standings from last year include: Arizona, Buffalo, Chicago, Seattle, Montreal, Anaheim, San Jose, Philadelphia, Seattle ... That is nearly the top ten picks right there. If the Flames were to tank for the 2023 draft they needed to start last year while they were winning the division.

There is also no cap room on most teams available to sell off every player on the roster, unless you think the Flames should take on every bad contract in the league - and why would teams just give away players whose bad contracts expire. They very likely won't be at 111 points or division winner but the same roster is fighting for a division playoff spot or wild card spot at the least, in my opinion.
 |
You don't have to trade the entire roster, but if you trade Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Hanifin, you get a haul of picks and prospects, and the team would not be competitive.

As it stands right now, we are looking at 4th in the division, and essentially rutterless

You could flip tarasenko? He is a ufa next summer?

Retain salary to NYR for Kakko?

Why not just trade Tkachuk for better assets in the first place?

We should be going after picks and prospects, not 30-something wingers that cost $7.5M

Who is trading us all these 2023 1st round draft picks that has cap room for a Lindholm or Markstrom though? It sounds so easy as an arm chair GM but tanking on purpose is pretty hard with a team that won the division last year and a hall of fame coach.

That’s the first choice and I’m still hopeful the Devils are interested and we get a big return. They added palat and if they landed Tkachuk they are stacked

Imo Tkachuk is a better fit that Johnny too. Hughes could use a Tkachuk

Palat and nico is a 2 way threat

They could have 2 stacked lines with Nemec coming

I’d be ok with their first in 2023 bratt holtz but if we can’t get the deal done I’m not just disregarding tarasenko balue with retain salary

Here in San Jose, the sports radio station is saying Kadri had at least 10 presentations from teams to go through and that is why he is taking the time to go through everything.

I think it’ll be tough getting any unprotected 1sts next year unless it’s Tampa/Colorado or legit contenders.

Didn't know that. Did he marry a Calgary girl as I believe he's from southern Ontario. If that's the case it's a pretty good fit.
