Anyone try Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake in Cross Iron Mills yet? Saw it was open, also saw about 50 people in line so figured I'd wait for the hype to die down.

I can't imagine the "buffet" style of central business district dining (i.e. Mercatino, Olly's, Sunterra) is for long in the era of hybrid / WFH working.

I had it in Vancouver a few years ago and thought it was just okay. Not worth waiting in line for IMO.

Dick's is where I fed my young M:TG addiction while observing the VLT addicted at Filo's.

Too much competition here with Scotties, Royale and Puff.

Still, it seems like a dumb move on Kimberly-Clark's part. When you have a brand name that has become a genericized noun for the entire product segment, you don't kill that brand name. Could you imagine Johnson & Johnson deciding to stop selling "Band-Aid"? Like... how incompetent a company are you that you somehow can't make money with a product whose brand name is synonymous with the product itself?

Canadian market and rules must be cost prohibitive. They aren’t the only brand pulling out of Canada recently.

I chatted with an analyst who mentioned the packaging rules (French) were an issue. They don't have enough capacity in Canada, so they're importing from the US, but then they have stop the line and make a separate run for the Canadian market because of the French requirement. So basically a combination of shipping costs and Canadian regulations.

Don’t they do the same thing for each market they sell into? Or is Kleenex strictly a North American product?

I think paper products are typically produced as locally as possible, considering the volume to value ratio of shipping such a bulky product

It mostly isn't shipped very far, because a box of kleenex is mostly air. So it fills up a truck/shipping container way before you've maxed out the weight.

Anyway, that's just hearsay, so it could be bogus. Although the source is someone who would reasonably have access to company management. But I also understand why they wouldn't put "the French requirements were a factor in us pulling this product" in the press release even if it's true. The shipping thing is probably a bigger factor and is less controversial so of course you'd lead with that.

Personally, as long as Scotties Supreme are still available I'm good.
