Strange match, very, very fast match at 2:37 for a five setter, or 7 minutes less than the Halep-Sharapova match.

It's amazing to me how the NY was full throttle against Tiafoe. Sure Federer is a legend and has had a great year but that win would have been monumental for the kid.
He needed the Montreal crowd. They willed Shapovalov over Nadal.

Well three sets willed him too, I doubt he could really beat Rafa in five sets. But the New York crowd has become the most staunchly pro-Federer, and they were an embarrassment in the 2015 final against Novak. I don't think there's a single American that isn't Serena that they'd cheer for over him, and even then he'd still probably have the crowd.

I dunno, I heard a ton of cheering for Frances, the place blew up when he broke to save himself. I think the amount of cheering on both sides was artificially enhanced by the closed roof.
either way, I don't understand how the mostly pro-Roger crowds at his matches could be considered an "embarrassment" in any way. he's been the embodiment of the sport's highest level for nearly 2 decades and anyone who's had the privilege to watch him live knows that it's a damn near religious experience for a tennis fan. every court will be his home court until the day he steps away forever, and every bit of it has been rightly earned.

I have no problem with that. The man is the greatest tennis player ever and is pretty much on his last legs. I didn't watch a single minute of the US Open last year because he wasn't there. Same with this years French.

I'm not talking about cheering for Roger, the fans can cheer as loudly as they'd like for whomever they'd like. I'm talking about when the fans are cheering against Roger's opponents. The 2015 US Open (and Wimbledon too for that matter), it was almost comical how the fans were reacting to every Novak miss, every error and service fault. You'd have thunk Roger had just won his fourth calendar slam in a row with how they reacted. I know that Novak was bordering on unbeatable during that stretch, and we all wanted another major, but loud applause after a first serve fault in the first set of a match on serve was ridiculous. Same with the crowd in Miami this year against Kyrgios, Kyrgios likely would have won if the crowd weren't so boisterously pro-Federer.
So again scream your lungs out for Roger when he wins games or points, but cheering raucously every time the opponent makes a mistake is just uncalled for. And no crowd has been worse for that the past few years than the New York crowd. That's not what we saw last night obviously, but if Roger does make it deep into this tournament and gets into a tight situation, we're likely to see it again.

Ya but does he have his own tennis court? http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/...court-ceremony
Seriously tho, I agree Roger is King and the fans love him. As more a fan of Rafa (but still a fan of Fed) it does get annoying at times and if your a Novak fan it's even worse. In terms of fan support I think it goes:
Roger
Rafa
Novak
There was more talk/excitement for Roger winning an 8th Wimbledon title than Rafa's 10th RG or Novak holding all 4 titles at the same time.
I think the big winner from that match was Krygios if he was watching that the self belief must be huge now that he could beat Fed.....of course he was probably playing Playstation so it's a mute point.

Genie is on court - Early service break for Rodina, but Genie bounces right back with a break and we're back on serve in set 1.

Nice bounce back there. She's not holding back. Let's see where this goes.

Another break by Rodina followed by an immediate break back by Genie - You see flashes of great tennis mixed in with inexplicable moments.

Good fight shown by Genie to win that game, came back from 15-30 down with some very nice play (forehand down the line is working well so far today).
Edit: Now a first set tie-breaker.
