I don’t see a problem there as he pusher her down. That video is a small part of what happened.

Duh, just shoot the knife out of her hand.
As the S/Sgt noted, what are they supposed to do, just let her go stab someone else? What is the outrage when that happens?
His quote that use of force isn't always pretty is totally spot on and needs to be a reality check for all the internet experts. Kudos to the EPS member for handling the situation and keeping everyone involved, and in the area, safe.

People who are mortified every time an officer overpowers someone should get out there and try their hand at peacefully arresting belligerent criminals suspected of carrying weapons and see how far they get.

Five cops killed in the last five weeks in Canada I think. Just a horrible string lately. Awful news about this latest one.

A Calgary police officer who pushed over a homeless man — who had been placed in a wheelchair — and kicked him in the face won't spend any time in jail after a judge handed him a conditional discharge.
Const. Eric Plummer pleaded guilty to assaulting Vincent James Lavoie on November 10, 2019.
Video entered in court as an exhibit shows Plummer pushing over Lavoie, who hospital security had put in a wheelchair and handcuffed after he became combative. Plummer then stepped on his bare foot and kicked him in the face.

Quote:
At least 15 Calgary police officers attended court to support Plummer, half a dozen of them in uniform. After court they greeted Plummer with smiles, hugs and handshakes to celebrate his non-custodial sentence.

Further proof that it's not just "one bad apple", it's systemic corruption and protection in law enforcement. I couldn't imagine any other industry where it would be acceptable for employees to celebrate a co-worker after they plead guilty to aggravated assault

Cst. Plummer was a friend-of-a-friend of mine... I'd heard about the charges, but didn't see the video until yesterday. Yikes...
Pretty big no-no for other cops to be there in uniform. As far as I know they're not permitted to be in court while on duty, unless expressedly for the purpose of testifying in a case they'd worked on. Pretty bad look on CPS, although I don't doubt the officers in question don't see it that way.

With respect to how they carry themselves, law enforcement can be more akin to a local mafia than a government agency

Come on Hemi, he was dealing with a bad divorce so that makes everything okay. Who among us hasn't knocked a man handcuffed to a wheelchair to the ground and then kicked him in the face when we were having a bad day?

The judge noted Plummer was going through a difficult divorce at the time of the incident.

Also interesting that it was the AHS witnesses that reported the incident. All the other cops in the video watched it happen and said "yup, that seems okay"

To be honest, I read the story and thought, wow, that is bad, kicking him in the face.
Then I watched the video. While an unacceptable use of force, "kicking" him in the face is a bit of a stretch. I mean it was no more of a kicking motion than Coleman's goal last year.
But coming in uniform to support that is an awful look. I suspect there will be some consequences.
