I voted for Tudor Dinca last time, and may again. I don’t know if he has the financial backing to really make a run. I haven’t looked at his platform this time around either, probably shoujd check for any crazy that’s popped up since last time.
He's not on the list of candidates that I can see. I'll check him out, if he runs.
Right now, I guess my vote is for the guy who doesn't even have a website, since he hasn't yet said anything I disagree with.
No! I loved him as my councillor. And the guy who will likely win in ward 5 now just seems shady to me.

Edit to add: And Tariq Khan is listed as running in Ward 5, but his website is called "Elect Tariq Khan for Ward 3."

Tudor Dinca is the brother of a friend of mine. Exceptionally nice guy, very thoughtful and informed. He would make an excellent city councillor. I was very excited to see that he was running again. I'm not in his ward, but would vote for him if I were.

I ended up googling Tudor Dinca and found his website, which said he was running. That's weird that he's not on the election list, but maybe it needs to be updated?
I read the blog posts on his website and he's definitely miles ahead of the others, in terms of thoughtful posts on a variety of issues that a city councillor would be involved in. Of the candidates I'm currently aware of, he would easily have my vote.
I'm worried that the only signs I've seen around are for Aryan Sadat.
I'm starting to care less and less about who ends up winning. I'll vote for Gondek, but at the end of the day if Farkas wins, oh well. He's one person. He's going to make Calgary look stupid for a few years. But we've got a lot of stupid people. Maybe we need a little bit of stupid to remind people how good they had it with Nenshi and throw the stupid people a bone for a while so that perhaps they realize their stupidity.
500 vote eligible Calgarians contacted between July 1 and July 7th. +- 4% margin of error.
This will be interesting to watch over the next few months... Farkas had the biggest name recognition and the early push.. But others will start to make a push now... I am also interested in eventual Debates, which Farkas has not attended in the early going...
I am also starting to hear more about Brad Field, who seems to have some money behind him.
If Farkas wins, he's going to have a hell of a time getting anything done without a voting block. And to be fair, that would apply to any candidate that wins.
I had a candidate come by my house the other day and, after stumbling through his platform and unable to tell me why the incumbent Councilor was so "horrible", I asked him what his approach to working with Council would look like. He didn't have an answer, stumbled over his words, and basically said Council has 13 members and is hopeful for the future.
If working with Council to get things done isn't high on your priority list and willing to be collaborative as a major plank of your Council strategy, you're not getting my vote.
I think Jan Damery could be a dark horse candidate, still early on and she has fundraised very well and seems to be getting organized with a team around her.

Or the stupid people will be emboldened and this goes on and on........
Reference the GOP.

It looks like Chu (4), Carra (9), Colley-Urquhart (13), and Demong (14) are the only ones who have announced their intentions to seek re-election and Magliocca hasn't announced one way or the other yet.
All other seats will be open with no incumbent seeking re-election.

For anyone like me interested in municipal politics check out Cross Border Pod podcast. There are many interviews with local elected officials including one or two I saw with Calgary councillors.
It was clear that some had to go but I don't think it's great timing to have so many newbies in city hall. The city is going to need strong leadership over the next decade.

Ahhh, DCU. Trying for a quarter century.
“I am not a career politician. If elected, I will serve two terms, then get out so there can be fresh leadership.”
Ah yes, Ray Jones has retired, and Magliocca is as good as gone. 10 out of 14 seats (plus the mayor) has to be some kind of record.

Agreed. This is an important time in the City and to have Farkas and a slate of conservative newbs at the helm is not what we need IMO.
