Some interesting articles I thought I'd share that talk about the peripherals of the tournament. None of the articles are about the actual football and none of them are very flattering to FIFA and the job they've done with this World Cup.
First article about how the security is a joke and how an England fan walked into the Team England dressing room minutes after their game.
http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/wor...ity061910.html
Here is one on how many South Africans have not seen the types of increases they were expecting in business:
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...qZaWAD9GEEE1O0
There was a third article that blasted FIFA but I cannot seem to locate it right now.

I think this is more of a South African problem than a FIFA problem
For example, companies bid for a FIFA contract and the winner is in charge of hiring people. They decided to screw the workers who then go on strike. What are the laws in South Africa, is there minimum wage?
And from the Globe and Mail reports, people can go anywhere. It's not total lockdown like it was in 2006 Germany and 2020 Japan.
Security is there but South Africans are so polite and friendly (and in some cases not the brightest), and things happen. You could probably give a guard a few bucks and he'll smile and let you through.

The article blasting FIFA that I am remembering specifically named FIFA and talked about all the money they will make, how they screw over local vendors and how the tournament isn't helping SA as much as people think.

Please find that for me, that would be an interesting read
I know the FIFA are no Saints but I wouldn't think it's their job to ensure the man on the street in South Africa makes a buck.

I tried to search for it for about half an hour but I can't find it. It talked about how all these vendors had such a hard time getting on the official list. It went on to explain how FIFA jacked up all the prices for the official hotels and stuff and that FIFA was pretty much screwing all the tourists and taking a cut of the profits. I read it last week at work but there are so many articles each day I could search for it for hours and not find it. I definitely read it from a link on Goole news.

I find it interesting how with all going wrong there are very few reports coming out of the UK about how bad the World Cup is. Yet, the Vancouver Olympics were a "disaster" and a "calamity".

Ya I bet guys like Elia and Huntelaar start but I don't see them resting much of the back 4 and guys like De Jong
they still need a draw to guarantee 1st and Cameroon will play wide open

Observations
Netherlands 1
Japan 0
- Honestly, Japan was unfortunate to not come away with a tie. A horrible non-save by their goalie. Japan probably played the best defense that I have ever seen them play and by the 20 minute mark had truly frustrated their opponent. By the 30min mark the Japanese became the more dangerous team though they never really got any dangerous shots off. Only when the Japanese pushed up did the Netherlands start to get dangerous.
Denmark 2
Cameroon 1
- What? Denmark scoring a goal? Never mind 2? WTF? Does that double their historical goal scoring in the WC?
Australia 1
Ghana 1
- Disappointing tournament for Australia. Stick a fork in them.

You must be mistaking Denmark for Norway.
Denmark is historically an extremely offensive side.

But this is nothing new. It costs a boatload to attend a World Cup and everything gets jacked up. It's THE money making opportunity.
This was true when I went in 1994 when tickets were expensive (for the time) and so were hotels and merchandise. Fortunately I have relatives in Dallas so I stayed with them.
South Africa can't complain. How many vuvuzelas have they sold!?
BBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Big game for the Azzurri tomorrow. I expect them to win this one convincingly, because if they don't pull out the victory, then they have no business playing in this tournament.

I think they would have bigger worries than their suitability for the World Cup if they don't win tomorrow. It is hard to imagine that you can Escobar a whole team but who knows....
(this post is possibly in very bad taste)

Yupp, not winning would be disasterous. No question about that. But that being said, I doubt anyone gets offed.

There will be 8 million angry Italians bombarding and crashing the FIFA website, convinced that they were the victims of a terrible conspiracy to see them out of the World Cup.
