Quick question: I'm getting my phone swapped tomorrow under my Applecare warranty. I've backed up my current phone to prepare for my new one. When I load my backup, will I also get my old text messages, call lists etc?

Funny, I don't remember ever dropping a call. I hate the iPhone screen in bright daylight as it's extremely hard to see sometimes. I travel a lot and used to carry a laptop but love being able to carry my iPhone in my pocket and no more laptop needed for most of what I need to do.

If my iPhone power ever runs down to nil would I lose my stored data like phone numbers and emails?

Nope, the kind of memory used for storage isn't volatile (doesn't lose data when the power is removed).

Does anyone know about using a Fido iPhone in China? Specifically, my work would like to be able to contact me via Skype and I'm not sure about WiFi in the hotels I'll be staying at.

If you're using wifi and not the cell connection it will be fine. The hotel should have wifi, if not, you can always go to the nearest mcdonalds or starbucks.

I'll be in the Caribbean and don't want to use my iPhone as a phone nor do I want to connect to any 3G and see roaming charges. I just want to use it for Internet use via free wi-fi networks. If I do the following will this do it for me?
Settings/General/Enable 3G off/Data Roaming off
Many thanks.

Thanks. It's here if anyone else needs the info. I imagine I should also turn off roaming while I'm at it.

Can just turn your 3G off in Settings > General > Network. And even to be super safe you can just put your iPhone in airplane mode, and then go into settings and just turn your wifi back on.

There is the search inbox feature at the top and you can search other boxes also. Did you mean something else?

I realize that this doesn't disable the phone. How can I do this and still be able to access free wi-fi?

Setting it in "Airplane mode" disables the phone (won't receive any calls, can't dial any calls) and leaves your phone open to connect via wifi

No, it also disables the wi-fi. Doesn't it? It did when I tried it.

It does initially, but you can turn wifi back on...with the phone remaining in airport mode.

This took me over 1 year to figure out. Once you turn wifi back on it basically makes your Iphone an Itouch.
Yes i did that on purpose.

Anyone had this issue: I have a 2cm crack on the back of the iPhone running from the bottom (port) up to just under the "no garbage can" symbol.
Made an apppointment at the Apple store, hope that they can help me out.

Yeah the back of my first phone had a crack from the port too, not that long tho. Fortunately there were some other issues with the phone and I had it all replaced under warranty.. Now I use a hard shell case.

I have the exact same one on my phone. I'm curious to hear what Apple says.

I have two big issues with the phone, I don't know if they've been answered, this is a huge thread:
1. It's always dropping calls. People are talking and then it's just gone. Annoying to no end.
2. But that's better than problem 2: people call me, my phone never rings and then like an hour later I'll get a text about the missed call. Sometimes no text, it'll just show up that I missed the call. THis happens about 75% of the time people call me, my parents know to keep calling because it'll eventually go through: they say its a busy tone on their end or straight to voice mail even if I'm not on it. I've tried it on my house phone and sure enough just busy signals.
