Yup. Unless Uber is only accepting drivers with a Class 4 license, they are operating in violation of provincial regulations. Of note, the province re-iterated the class 4 requirement yesterday.

Additionally, I would note that their complaints about the government failing to approve proper "ride sharing" insurance in their preferred timeline is an implicit acknolwedgment that they know their drivers are fraudulently using their personal insurance for commercial purposes.

This is supposed to be a three-part series, but so far, only the first two are posted...

Interesting points about why Uber is willing to operate illegally in Toronto, but hasn't made any attempt to enter Vancouver.

What is the actual global taxi industry worth? I am just curious if Uber gains market domination, was it worth it for its investors?

AKA loop holes! My guess since they use the word entrepreneur. They are going to want someone to start their own personal business and then use uber infrastructure and branding

They are maybe a bit more desperate for positive cash flow after their China debacle.

Really? Sounds awkward. I'd love to see some of those pitches though, gotta be some really terrible ideas just waiting to get out

I'd love if someone pitched a new ride sharing idea in the car.

Strategically, this is pretty sound from Uber's perspective. "Dragons Den meets Cash Cab" is a pretty silly concept, but it gets Uber back into people's consciousness. The worst thing for them is to be forgotten.

The new bylaw came into effect today.

TNCs (Transportation Network Companies) can apply to have their apps approved: http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/ABS/Pages...ensed-TNC.aspx

You can also start to get your TNC Driver's Licence: http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/ABS/Pages...NC-driver.aspx

Under the new bylaw, taxi companies can set their own rates as long as they don't exceed the prices set by the commission.

It looks like the cab companies are responding by lowering their fares: http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...nies-cut-rates
