Malkin kills our cap situation going forward. Flames make no sense to add a 29 year old center when we have a 20 and 18 year old that look more than capable of carrying the load now and moving forward.

If you look at the culture this team has right now it would be a massive mistake to uproot a large chunk of their players for one star.
It would disrupt everything, there will be roster changes before next season... but taking out 5 or 6 guys from this group would back fire.
The Flames have spent so many years searching for a culture and right now is not the time to disrupt that.

Feel like the Pens would want Schwartz.
Berglund's game has fallen off a cliff, Lindbohm isn't all that promising, and Oshie has concussion issues.

Replace Berglund with Backes, and Lindbohm with a better prospect (Fabbri) and I think it would be closer.

I agree with this at the very least Backes in place of Bergland for Pitt to even consider it

Backlund is NOT a "middle of the road" part. He is integral to the team's success and is Selke material. You absolutely MUST have this kind of player to win in the playoffs.

PIT doesn't have the balls to trade Malkin IMO.
I listened to the interview and Elliott's point was that they have to at least TALK about moving him internally. Which I think they certainly could do. But after talking about it I don't think they will move him.

^ They have to do something. Teams just have to double team Crosby to shut down the Pens right now.

I think it would have to be:
Backes
Oshie
2016 1st
or
Backes
Bouwmeester
Fabbri
The second one would make more sense because the Pens need a 2nd line center to fill the Malkin hole, Bouwmeester can play alongside Letang (also means they don't re-sign Martin), and Fabbri would be a great addition to a not-so-great prospect pool.

Isn't he injury prone? I feel like he is always injured.
He is an elite goal scorer but like many have said above, no way I want a 30 year old making almost $10m/year for like 6 more seasons. I am sure he will still be scoring a lot of goals for the rest of his career but I just wouldn't give up our top end, young talent to win now. I'd rather have Bennett, Monahan and Johnny for 20 years, not 5 good years of Malkin. We would have to give up a lot to get him and that just isn't what this organization is going to do right now.
I also agree that PIT doesn't have the balls to trade him. I wonder if a team like Buffalo or Carolina would make a pitch for him. Buffalo has loads of great prospects and they would afford to give up some of them to get a guy like Malkin. Kane and Malkin on the same line, now that would be scary.

I agree - BUT we do have Arnold and Jankowski in our system, who are very Backlund-esque (and Jankowski may be better)

Backlund isn't even close to Selke material.

I admit when I wrote that I thought Predators were overpaying, but since Malkin is a very marketable name I think you see a team overpay to get him.

Maybe not. But he is the key piece in the imaginary Malkin trade. C'mon Treliving, make it happen. Maybe the Flames could throw in a 4th to even things out.
These trade threads are always good for a chuckle.

Josi is like Suter, who they survived without (keep in mind they lost him for nothing, not for Malkin)

Malkin can be the #1 C and allow McDavid to be the #2. Edmonton has a glut of wingers and Pitts needs one to play with Crosby. Pitts has ton of D spects, Oilers need some!
Eberle and RNH for Malkin and some defense......

Can't see Colorado being a fit, they're set at center

What about the huge Cap savings?
Craig Smith is a very solid #2 C as well.
