And they score 1 run! Typical for them to blow a huge opportunity to get back in the game.

Hutchison walks 2 after 2 out, gives up the GS in the first inning, having thrown 35 pitches.
Just a mess and for the second time in this series, the bullpen is up before the 1st is done (and the Jays got the lead in the top of the 1st.).
Now he gives up another HR after another basehit...6-1...Sox have batted through the lineup in the 1st.
Pathetic.

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos set to return next year
According to Simmons so who knows.
Quote:
Alex Anthopoulos, the much-maligned general manager of the Blue Jays, will return for his sixth season running the club, a bevy of major-league sources have confirmed.
Apparently, there is no temperature at all to remove Anthopoulos from his job — in fact, quite the opposite sentiment exists — with an appreciation internally for the manner in which he has conducted his business.
Neither Anthopoulos nor club president Paul Beeston would comment on the general manager’s status.
With Anthopoulos certain to return, it is also expected that John Gibbons will be back as manager.
Neither Gibbons nor Anthopoulos have been given any indication personally about their futures in Toronto beyond this season, but the GM’s contract carries into next year while it is assumed that Gibbons’ deal does not.

You could tell that first inning was going to end in disaster for the Jays.

I really like Gibby because he seems like such a normal guy, but I fully admit I don't know enough about baseball to really assess if he's the right guy to manage this team or not.
As always with AA it is a matter of - if you dump him - who do you bring in that's better.

Bases loaded 3 times, 1 run out of that. Combine that with the disaster or Hutchison's first inning, and the fact that Danny Valencia, Tolleson and Reimold are the bench players, your hoping for a small miracle, and a SP is the designated pinch runner.

Jays starting pitchers in August:
Stroman: 0-2, 8.53 ERA, 1.58 WHIP
Buehrle: 0-1, 6.39 ERA, 2.29 WHIP
Hutchison: 1-2, 5.91 ERA, 1.03 WHIP
Dickey: 0-2, 4.26 ERA, 1.53 WHIP
Happ: 0-2, 3.00 ERA, 0.90 WHIP
Sigh.

Gibby's a good manager. In terms of game impact managers basically have the following responsibilities...
1: Hand in the starting line-up card
2: Player substitutions
3: Set plays (IBB, Pitch-out, Hit'n'run, sac bunts etc. etc.)
4: Replay challanges
For my money Gibby tends to make the right calls for the line-up he has. His player substitutions are generally either late game defensive upgrades when winning, or game close substitutions designed to utilize the platoon advantage, there's no downside to challanges so that's fine, and he doesn't make a lot of set plays (which is good because pitchouts and IBB are poor percentage plays in the AL). The only quibble I have is that he sometimes doesn't hook the starter soon enough (particularily Dickey) and he's gotten better at that as the season has worn on.
I'm less enamored with Anthopoulis these days. He's been unable to put a post-season team out there on the field. I'm sympathetic to the arguement that he's been handcuffed by the money men but ultimately it's his job to produce a winner with the resources he's been allocated by ownership... ownership isn't going to change so if he can't do it they ought to look into seeing if someone else can.

I think Gibbons is too loosy goosey. A manager's job is more important off the field. Batting practice, fielding practices, base running practice etc.. And players don't get punished for making dumb errors. There is no reason why Rasmus and Francisco keep making the same mistakes over and over again and are still in the lineup. I feel the players don't respect him, they're not scared of him. Just seems like Gibbons doesn't care.. he gives off that vibe.
As for AA I agree with you, Rogers isn't going to give more, it's already 140 million.

Happ will be hitting 9th tonight. So that begs the question. Does he get more hits then Francisco?
