Question.
If Byron, Jones and Street stay with the Flames for the rest of the season, would management send them through waivers to play with the Heat in the playoffs, or would they just be considered "NHLers" at that point and let them start their off seasons?
Also, could/would the Flames send Monahan down to the Heat for playoffs, or is that not allowed....and if it is allowed would they even bother because, again, he simply considered an "NHLer" at this point?

If Ottawa's season is done they could send him down but not before that.
I would say that it wouldn't be worth it to send him down.

Of course it would be great for him to go down and be on a playoff team.
Ottawa's reg season end March 16 even if they make the playoffs in a 10 team conference, they'll be swept and done in 4 so by the time they're done Sean will be eligible for the Heat. Great confidence booster heading into off-season.

RE: Byron/Jones/Street
I'd say it depends heavily on what Burke's plans are with those three. If he sees any of them as a viable NHL player or even a solid farm hand, I'm not sure he'd expose them to waivers. I'm sure there are a lot of AHL bottom feeders who would gladly welcome Street on their team.
My guess is Jones is the most likely to get exposed to waivers and sent down. I don't imagine a lot of teams want a small player like Byron, unless they want him for AHL help.

To Monahan's development or to the team? Because the team wouldn't lose sleep if he was sent down to help them with a playoff run.
Way I see it, playing time, no matter whether it's in the NHL or AHL, would be good for Monahan. He'd be a top line player for the Heat too.

If any teams were to claim any of those players off of waivers, they would have to keep them in the NHL, so no organization can claim them for the sole purpose of bolstering their AHL line ups. (I think that's what you were getting at?)

Good point.
I just meant more in terms of for next season. If we're talking within in the next couple of weeks, I don't think any team would take a flyer on any of those guys because they'd have to stay on the NHL roster.
If we're talking nearing the end of the regular season, I'd say maybe a team would pluck Street or Byron off of waivers to be a farm hand next year.
Sorry, my post was a bit vague.

To Monahan's development, of course it would be a great addition for the Heat to add a guy like Monahan, he would be their best player.

Players have to be down with the Heat around the trade deadline for when the AHL clear day rosters are set. Anybody not on that roster cannot dress in the playoffs except for junior players who get signed to ATO's.
So unlikely we'll be able to send many guys down to make that clear day roster. Unless they've changed the rules on that.

Apparently, the new CBA got rid of the "AHL Clear Day" rosters, but teams must still submit a playoff eligibility roster at some point.
I can find a lot of stories from last year saying that the Clear Day is gone, but no description of what the current rules are.

The AHL abolished the Clear Day rules last year. This is what they had explaining the eligible play off rosters for the 2012-13 season. I don't believe it will change for this year.
Quote:
The American Hockey League’s Board of Governors has approved several critical dates and deadlines pertaining to the remainder of the 2012-13 season.
The AHL’s trade and loan deadline will be Wednesday, Apr. 10, at 3 p.m. ET. Following the deadline, no player may be acquired via trade between member clubs, and no AHL club may accept a player on loan from a club other than its NHL affiliate.
The AHL’s playoff roster deadline will be Monday, Apr. 22, at 3 p.m. ET, by which time all 16 playoff teams must submit to the league a list of playoff-eligible players. Only those players on a team’s playoff eligibility list, plus signed draft choices and players signed to amateur tryout contracts, are eligible to compete in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Players from lower professional leagues can also be added if they played in at least eight games in the AHL and/or a lower league in 2012-13.
AHL Clear Day roster restrictions have been removed. Any eligible player on a club’s roster may participate at any time during the remainder of the regular season and the Calder Cup Playoffs.
And per National Hockey League rules, only those players who have been recalled from an AHL club following the NHL trade deadline (Wednesday, Apr. 3 at 3 p.m. ET) may be returned to the AHL during the remainder of the season.

Out of the top 5, he's also the youngest aside from Strome. Included in that list are full college graduates (Anders Lee, Curtis McKenzie) and Brenden Kichton, who was an amazing WHL player (I'd argue his feat is even more incredible, given that he's a defenceman).
Pretty strong company to be in.

I saw you added Sieloff to your next list, but I do have a question about him.
I watched the Friday game on AHL live and used the Grand Rapids radio feed. They seemed pretty certain that Sieloff was done for the year and made a point to talk about him as he was a player of interest for them being from Michigan and all.

He's over the infection and ramping up his physical conditioning. The thought is if all goes well, he could be back potentially as early as next month.

What Freeway said basically. Ward said February at the earliest. Then you've got to account for training/conditioning, probably lots of weight room time and ice time separate from main practice. It'll be quite the process, but I'm looking forward to seeing him back in the lineup.
