Locked means it's locked to a single carrier. Unlocked means it can operate on any carrier that supports GSM. If you buy a phone from a carrier it's usually locked to that carrier. If you buy it from the Apple store you can pay full price and buy it unlocked.
You can also jailbreak and unlock a phone via software, but there are risks and downsides of that.

ok iphone fellows... i scratched the face of my new iphone. within the 30 days. ive already returned it once for another issue, and this is getting sketchy looking im sure. i want to return it and get a new one with a screen protector on it but am i being unrealistic thinking i can keep this thing scratch free? keep in mind the scratching im talking about is only visible when the phones locked/off and you look really closely with light..

i found a free workaround here:
http://lifehacker.com/5696311/how-to...e+2010-devices
i just tried it today on my 3GS with my gf's iphone 4 and it works perfect! all you need is access to a supported device and you're good to go.
if you read the comments you can see that people have done it with iphones and ipads at the apple store too.

Seems like a harsh statement. Look, I keep my iphone in empty pockets and I got a car holder for a reason, so I doesnt get scratched. I went to the apple store and they swapped it out brand new, and I asked the manager what he recommends for a screen protector. He said "it's scratch proof, if it happens again come back well give you a new one".
If Apples going to make the screen face scratch proof (or so they say) they should and do stand by it. I give big ups to apple in this regard.

I've started having a problem with my iPhone. When I finish a call and I press hang up it freezes on that screen for a good minute or so before it finally comes off. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a hardware issue?

try formatting and restoring the phone. it's surprisingly fast and fixes most issues

Signal loss isn't an issue if you have a bumper or case.

I haven't even heard of the sensor issue outside of this thread. Not to say it hasn't happened, I just haven't heard any of my friends mention it.
