Pretty eye opening that 5-6 beers that afternoon and several WHILE DRIVING puts you barely over 0.08 BAC. 8 beers and I would be hammered well beyond the point of driving.
Ever had American beer?

People can generally process one standard drink per hour.
I’ve heard that before as well, but given he blew over 0.08 it seems likely that there’s an inconsistency in the amount of booze consumed / length of time that passed (or his body didn’t process the alcohol that fast). The rough math here doesn’t seem to add up.

Different people metabolize alcohol differently. Many factors come into play. I hardly drink any more and I know 3 beers over 3 hours hit me about as hard as 6 over the same time 15 years ago.
Also, has the person ate during this time, are they mixing waters in... etc.

If he's saying he had 5 beers before he drove, I would guess it is more likely 8-9. He tried hiding the beer cans in his car, I doubt he's being completely honest about how much he drank.
Narcissism seems to be getting worst every decade, especially when it comes to the entitled youth today.
It seems like a death spiral. Altruism is not rewarded, and selfishness is not punished. As a consequence, selfish people perform better in aggregate than altruistic people. The younger generations react to this (slowly but surely) by emulating the most successful.
That's my take on the current situation. No idea how to fix it at all.

Pretty sure every generation has said this about the next generation in some fashion since the dawn of time.
So I guess, kudos on becoming your parents lol.
I actually see the youth coming up as at a disadvantage socially and without a lot of the necessary bonding and physical "play" we were lucky to have an abundance of and feel bad for them. I see a lot of kids without an identity and without a clue as to who to be or to model because everything is so individualized and concepts like masculinity developing such negative associations to it. Boys don't even know how to #### around and be boys in the traditional sense. Add in a pandemic and either overbearing millennial parents trying to over-correct how they were raised, or neglectful parents letting the internet do the heavy lifting for them and oof, it must be terrible.
I feel blessed to grow up during that transition between two very different worlds. To be familiar with living with minimal tech but also being able to navigate that side too.
Hard to say if growing up today is a catalyst for narcissism, maybe it is with the rise of social media stardom and "influencer" becoming an aspiration for kids now. But I'm not sure that's necessarily their fault, but a product of an unhealthy, me-centric, superficial society that inundates them with #### all day.

While likely true, you can't fake the BAC test.

The problem is never the children, it is always the adults.
And even if you somehow missed that these empathy impaired monsters are all adults. Think for a moment about what children are: not yet fully formed humans. Adults are the ones responsible for children and their actions while they develop.

The guillotine is a tried and tested solution to excessive greed.
Or, you know, more aggressively progressive taxation.

100%
It's arse backwards to look at the next gen and call them the problem when they learned everything they know from watching our example.
And in this case, it was a selfish and reckless adult with apparently not a care in the world that he mowed down down two soon to be dads on bikes except how the consequences would affect his livelihood.
Still far better than bleeding heart Canada's justice system, a drunk cement truck driver killed a family of 5 and was out in 3 years
... You know that's basically going to be the same amount of time.
I mean he's probably going to get and take a plea that will probably cut his sentence in half (ish), serve 1/3rd of that less pre-trial detention credit, get paroled. He'll be out in likely 3ish years.
Body camera footage of police interaction with driver is released. More than anything it seems like the guy was impatient and made a poor decision. I think drinking was a factor in his decision making, but he clearly wasn't drunk. He's probably just an everyday guy, who drives aggressively and is an impatient driver.
Just last week someone overtook me on elbow drive by accelerating into the lane of on coming traffic. It was insane because there was a red light 100m ahead and lots of traffic in front of me. So like 5 seconds after he overtook me, we're both waiting at the same light. Probably a similar type of low IQ driver...just aggressive and impatient middle aged man for no reason.
The oddest part is the end of the video where he asks if everyone was is okay and what happened. Like this is 30 minutes after the incident...it's odd he doesn't know that he's killed them at this point.
