Someone would've offersheeted Hamilton eventually if we offered him 3x3. He would've laughed and said no, and then signed with someone else.

Actual rookie of the year Hurbedeau was in the same situation exactly as Hamilton except he had 2 good seasons on his ELC.... Rookie of the year and leading the Panthers in scoring in his 3rd year.


He was waiting for an offersheet till the middle of September when he signed a 2 year deal 3.25 x 2.

Pretty sure the Oilers would have offersheeted him and that's why the Bruins chose the Flames instead.

First post in this thread has McKenzie listing the Oilers as potentially offer sheeting Hamilton.

And just because Huberdeau didn't get an offer sheet means nothing. The Panthers are/were in a totally different salary cap situation than the Bruins.

and the Bruins wouldn't have wanted the Oilers 1st pick overall either 2015 or 2016?

You can't use 2015 picks to sign a player to a 2015 offer sheet, because the draft is already over before free agency begins. Duh.

Also, you can't assume that the Oilers would have finished dead last with Hamilton in the lineup. He'd have been a significant upgrade to the worst area of their team. Even if they did finish last, the top three picks are awarded by lottery starting next year, and there is a maximum 20% chance that the Oilers will pick first again.

It's glaring errors of fact and logic like these that have caused so many people to put you on ignore, and the rest to point and laugh at most of the things you say.

We are talking about after the draft and as bad as the Oilers are it wasn't a guarantee they finish last this season.

Just pointing out that there was talk about an offersheet for Hamilton.

what has the panthers cap situation have to do with it?

to me it means that no team thought he was worth Hamilton's type of contract and their 1st 2nd and 3rd draft picks.

cap situation has everything to do with an offer sheet.

If a team has the cap space and budget to match an offer sheet, then the offer sheet becomes an almost meaningless exercise for other teams, unless it is for stupid ridiculous money.

If a team will struggle to match an offer sheet because of the salary cap, then it becomes a much more effective exercise to sign a player to an offer sheet.

Flames have cap space to match so that means Gaudreau and Monhan are not getting offer sheets and the Flames can sign them to 3.25x2?

The Flames did have cap space and could have signed Hamilton to 3x2 and no one would have offersheeted???

First of all Gaudreau isn't eligible to sign an offer sheet. He doesn't have the 3 years pro experience as defined by the CBA so Flames will have exclusive rights to him as long as they make a qualifying offer.

Secondly neither Gaudreau or Monahan have arbitration rights.

So that leaves both of them these options:

1. Sign whatever the Flames put in front of them.
2. Sit out until the Flames give them their contract demands
3. Go play in Europe.

So for Monahan his 4th option is
4. Hope for a team to give him an offer sheet.

#4 is unlikely as the Flames will match any reasonable offer sheet and have the cap space to do so.


This is all pretty moot anyways Flames are unlikely to play hardball with either player.

After watching Hamilton tonight vs the Hawks, he could be one hell of a RW power forward.
Has size, incredible offensive instinct and incredibly strong on the boards, and can skate like the wind.

Instead of him taking too long looking for the perfect outlet, skate it and take it deep.

It looks like Dougie is coming through that adjustment period some d-men need when they go from the Eastern to the Western conference. You can see his confidence improving each game now.

He's our 2nd best blueliner behind only Brodie. If all three of the picks we used on him were 1st rounders I'd still take Hamilton and run.
