If that news was true about iggy telling ownership a while ago, that he wasn't planning on re-signing. You have to think that furthers the chance he will be dealt. If they know he's gonna be gone at the end of the year anyway, you have to think if no one meets there price, they will just drop it and trade him anyway. That way they at least get something for him

Also known as: “The Guy Lafleur.”
Cons: In Iginla’s case, it would mean playing for the Oilers four or five years from now, and would he really want to play for a team that was still in the middle of a rebuild?

You know, I was wondering if you thought Iginla was fast until I read this post.
Good thing the Pens traded for Douglas Murray, as he has speed to burn.

Why? So your terrible team can finish 9th instead of 12th?
First things first... make sure your team can compete with average goaltending, then cap it off with a franchise goalie. Timing is everything when building (or rebuilding) a team.
A big problem with the Flames the past few seasons is that having Kiprusoff bail them out every night did not help them develop urgency or confidence without a Kipper safety net (see every time the Flames used a back-up). Kiprusoff single handedly raised our place in the standings enough to always keep us in win-now mode, but the team as a whole sucked too much to get over the hump. In the big picture, was this what was best for the team? I personally don't think so.
I hate to say it, but the Leafs are doing it right. If they can teeter on success with 2 backups, that team will be all the much better by the time they can land a franchise calibre goalie. There's always the risk that they won't land one, but such is life. No risk, no reward.

I no this is a tiny bit off topic, but i wonder if the reason tangs isn't playing well has to do with all the iggy stuff. He just seems so off right now and i can't figure it out

I have been wondering about Iggy's supposed list of 4 teams thing a bit given his pending UFA status. To state the obvious - if there is a list, then those are the preferred destinations for Iggy to play out THIS year and playoffs. It says little or nothing about his desire to play there long term. He can sign wherever he wants long term, he's a UFA. If his intention was to get traded to the team that he plans to be with long term, then I would have thought there would be more than 4 teams on that list. There ARE more than 4 teams that could legitimately win the cup in the next 5 years... it won't just be a rotation of Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago and LA, guarantee it. So IF he plans to resign ad be long term with the team the he gets traded to, one would have thought he would have had a bigger list... to include other good teams that are on the rise and could move into elite contender status in a few years. Not thinking of any teams in particular, maybe St. Louis types.
But he has a very short list. I think that could be an indication that he plans to go to one of those teams for this year ONLY and then will sign with the real team of his choosing in free agency. This could be known and could impact the return for him - true rental.
I have my own reasons, which I won't go into, for believing that it would be somewhere closer to home; almost certainly in the west. Who knows, maybe Calgary?

Not exactly a ringning endorsement for the players that were on the Canucks during that time.

Probably comes from Iginla on the Kamloops Blazers, and also the fact that for a while, Iginla was the premier power forward in the league.

Fair enough.
Last game I thought Cooke was playing in 2nd line and assumed that Morrow would replace Cooke/Bennett/random player x on the Malkin line.
And am sure Iginla would be a better fit with Malkin/Neal than whoever is playing there now.

I think a lot of people are reading way too far in to that Lucic comment
he grew up a Canucks fan
http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nhl...mes&id=6614270
was also a big Bertuzzi fan, it's very likely he's also going to like another elite Power Forward in the league

The difference is the way I remember it Guy's coach, Jacques Lemaire ( that lover of offensive hockey) told Guy that he could look forward to times in popcorn row and limited ice time, thus kind of forcing Guy's retirement. He reconsidered a while later, came back and good for him.

sorry for the source

The Hawks are still in the running on this, have put forth a huge offer (that I'm told by a non-Hawk source is by far the best of the teams involved) and the situation will get decided soon.
Regardless, Boston, I'm told, is still in the lead for other reasons, namely Iginla's preference.

Malkin has been hurt for a little while now. When he's back and if Iginla is traded there you'd probably James Neal moved to left wing, Malkin in the middle and Iginla on the right wing. Or split up the top line and put Iginla with Crosby. I know Pens fans love Dupuis and Kunitz with Crosby but he's making that line hot, not those two.
Morrow would obviously move back down to his normal 3rd line role.

Very doubtful they would mess with the Neal/Malkin chemistry
