How about a Tyler for Tyler swap? Bozak for Wotherspoon.

Leafs apparently have to shed at least $4MM in salary before they can re-sign Connor Brown.
That likely puts either JVR or Bozak in play.
I doubt they would consider letting Brown go, but he would be an interesting RW idea.

I think the Flames will sign Stafford. After re-signing our RFAs, we donīt have 6 mil to spend on a high end RW. Heīs not the messiah but I think on a one year he can chip in 10-15 goals, has size and is a right handed shot

If the Flames could get Bozak for a B prospect and have the Leafs retain some salary then sure.
Western Canadian kid to boot. Likely a decent fit for that and the other reasons previously posted.

I realize that he is 31 and makes 4.2 mil but he had 55 points last season.
B prospect? Retain salary?

Re: Bozak
Clearly I'm only on board if we fleece the Leafs. Also, what else does Calgary have to offer Toronto that works for both sides? Leafs want cap room. Flames won't necessarily have a ton after their RFAs are signed.

Has anyone even remotely credible connected rumors of Jagr to Calgary or did this all just start when Craig Button said that he'd be a nice fit on our top line?

I would offer Stajan for Bozak straight up, nothing more and nothing less. Bozak doesn't hold the value of a 55 point guy to me, he's always been the beneficiary of truly great wingers.

No thanks, he is not an upgrade on anything we already have on the right side.

Exactly.
Toronto will not get fleeced and the Flames don't have the cap space.
Calgary won't have or be willing to move the assets ( likely high picks or young A prospect(s ) needed to acquire Bozak.

And why would Toronto even consider that deal?

Probably for the same reason we'd be considering targeting Bozak in the first place. None.

Because they realize that Marner and JVR drove that line (and JVR/Kessel before that), and they could replace Bozak with a defensively superior, million-dollars-cheaper center in Matt Stajan. Who's cheaper to buy out than Bozak, who's cheaper to retain 50% on in a trade than Bozak, etc.
Calgary has less to gain, we improve in shot balance and maybe get a RWer for Bennett who can win some faceoffs. Bozak probably isn't hitting 55 points as Versteeg / Bennett's RW, and he's not displacing Bennett or Jankowski at center. We'd be the team taking on more salary.

If they are trading Bozak for cap purposes, you don't think they could pickup some draft picks or cheaper players than just saving 1M in cap-space in a Bozak for Stajan trade?
Even if Bozak isn't the one driving plays on his line, the fact of the matter is he still put up a bundle of points. There is no way they would ever trade him just for 1M in cap space

He has played 275 games the last 4 seasons. He has 188 points playing, prior to last season, with such stars as Shawn Mathias and PA Parenteau and yes Kessel.
Those points extrapolate to 56 points per 82 games during that 4 season time frame.
Stajan?
Get real.

Please, here are the 5 on 5 linemates he's had by ice time over the last four years, and the guys who he has played 500+ minutes with:
Total Ice Time Played - 3857:23
James Van Riemsdyk - 2767:12
Phil Kessel - 1760:38
Mitch Marner - 861:30
PAP - 538:50
Here are the forwards Stajan has hit the 500 minute mark with since 2010:
Total IceTime - 5506:27
Lance Bouma - 1105:23
Lee Stempniak - 798:43
Curtis Glencross - 735:36
David Jones - 703:11
Alex Tanguay - 594:46
Jarome Iginla - 584:11
Micheal Ferland - 504:48
Bozak is not that good. He has just had the best linemates possible. Something we can't replicate unless you want Tkachuk and Gaudreau flanking him. When Stajan had linemates of that Caliber, he was a 55 point guy himself. And Stajan is better defensively.
Again, even if Bozak is better offensively, which is debateable, Calgary shouldn't offer much for Tyler Bozak. He was a sheltered 3rd line center last year who had a superstar RWer and a top 6 star power forward LWer.

To me this looks more like Toronto trying to move one of Horton or Lupuls contracts. Every team needs to be cap compliant before they dip into LTIR and the Leafs have over $10M in IR money. If Tre pulls this off I'd say it's a way of recovering some high draft picks for taking on Lupul's $5.25M cap hit.

This type of comparison is asinine. The reason Stajan is playing 4th line minutes on our team is because he is a 4th line player. If the coaches believe Staj can put up 55 points playing with Johnny and Mony, they would stick him in there no questions asked. You're using linemates as a type of measuring stick to compare players which is complete nonsense.

That is an amazingly simplistic view point.
- Stajan was a 3rd line center who played 4th line minutes because Bennett and Monahan should not.
- Bozak was a 3rd line center who played 3rd line minutes because Marner was an undersized rookie and Nylander was played at 1RW instead of 3rd line center.
As for the second part, if Bozak is a 55 point player and that's the only thing that matters, he also should have played with Nylander and Matthews on their first line. Why did Zach Hyman play ahead of Tyler Bozak if points are the only thing that matter?
Anyways that's all I have to say on this matter. Bozak is a very average 3C. He would not have scored 40 points without JVR and Marner, neither of which belongs on a third line.

Key phrase right here because he isn't anymore and hasn't been that since about 2013-14.
