That was a slick pass. Good for him.

Apparently Bennett was tied with Pavel Bure for points in their first 8 games with Florida coming into tonight, and he has 2 points so far.

For the record, Bure had 2 goals in game 9 so Benny is still tied. Bure went pointless in game #10 though (then had a hatty in game #11). He only played those 11 games that year.

Bennett caught that play way before it happened, great hockey sense.

No no. That just means other players made better plays to him first and all he had to do was shovel the puck towards the net.

Ugh....

So happy for Bennett. Really I am. Sad for me he's not a Flame.

Also gives him one more point as a Panther than he had each of the last two regular seasons

Why would he ever want to leave Florida and why would Florida ever want him to leave?

What a damn steal by the Panthers. A centre that competes on all 200 feet and plays with a physical edge and a solid skillset.

There is no way, I think he is gone for good. I doubt he would even come back for a big contract!

The Panthers carry every puck in. It's incredible to watch. I feel like we used to do that when Hartley was here.

So Tre was fleeced it seems.

Sutter coach to start the season and Bennett is still a Flame.

You know, I have to say something here:

All this talk about Bennett being mishandled by the Flames may have merit, but sometimes #### just happens and you can't be mad about how it works out.

You think the Lightning are mad at letting Carter Verhaeghe go for nothing? You think they're having a massive internal audit about their player development? I know, they simply didn't have a roster spot for him, but still, I doubt they're losing much sleep over it.

What about the multiple teams that had Duclair, it didn't work out there, and he moved on? You think NYR, Arizona, Chicago, Columbus, and Ottawa ALL mishandled him and regret letting him go?

I'm just saying, sometimes a guy pops in the right place and time. You have to evaluate players on what they do for you, and for sure, Sam Bennett didn't do enough with the Flames.

I also believe that he needed some better opportunities, but it is really hard to justify it for a guy having several seasons in a row of 25-30 points. At some point a player needs to force the decision for coaches and management.

The only time I will truly say they mishandled him was when he started the year on the 4th line instead of playing with Dube and Lucic after their obvious chemistry and success in the last playoffs. For that, I blame Ward for not recognizing a good thing when he had it.

All I know is that Sam is better than what he showed in Calgary. How much better? I'm not sure, but it wouldn't shock me to see him be a solid 2nd line center for the rest of his career.

It would be easier to take if the team wasn't struggling so much, and hadn't been inept for so long (save a brief 2/3 of a season blip on the radar)...

Verhaege also wasnt nearly as high profile a prospect as Bennett. 3rd Rounder vs 4th overall

It’s not that Treliving was fleeced in this deal.

It’s what transpired while Bennett was here that sure as hell better be figured out. Just bad luck? Nope I don’t think so. Too many people complained about how he was being used so the old “no one saw this coming” doesn’t apply.

Cant say I was one of those people so I was definitely missing something.
