Oh, I thought you were talking about just a trade without a buyout now.

I just hate buyouts.

Can we please for the love of god sell high on Coleman at the deadline? Some cup contending team will easily give a 1st + for him. We can even retain some salary too for some added picks and/or prospects.

No cup contender is trading for a Blake Coleman with 3 more years at 4.9M without significant retention.

Also, he has a NTC so he would decide if he gets traded.

And you know this how? Former Stanley Cup winner, 20 goal guy, leader and gives his all every game. That is exactly the type of player contenders look for.

If we retain 1.5 mil a season he is an amazing acquisition

I guess we’ll have to see if Edwards will pony up 5mil for a good, productive player to not play for us

Coleman is the teams leading scorer. He does everything 200ft on the ice and is a team leader. I can't see why the Flames would trade him, but he's is far surpassing his cap hit this year, and his % against the cap goes down in each of the next three years as the cap goes up.

Coleman would go without retention, and I want soda for my machine. I don't want the players paying for soda anymore.

Coleman and Markstrom are having strong years. That's exactly when you should be considering trading them if there is a decent futures package out there for them. These guys won't be around or productive when the Flames are good again.

That’s the approach the Flames would take if they’re committed to a rebuild.

But they aren’t.

Yeah if someone offers you a great package for Coleman, you take it and run.

But they aren’t.
I mean even if the Flames are looking to shortcut it with a 2 year rebuild, it's not likely that either player is going to be contributing significantly a 35/34 years old.

And if they are, the questions arise about whether you trade them at the deadline/lose them for nothing.

I would really like this organization to show some foresight.

Me too, even the rookies aren't untouchable. Seriously, not one player has the pedigree on this team to be considered untouchable.

The team is not stripping it down and some of our vets will be kept. For all these posters wanting a rebuild it has become obvious most of these posters won't have the patience for it and it will just be a constant slew of negative posts on here.

So...we're a retooling team that is going to get rid of rookies before we know what we have? Smart.

That’s very annoying to hear. The team has the luxury of being in a Canadian market with a following. The idea of people not supporting the team through a rebuild is a story ownership is telling themselves. The continuous mediocrity will kill the fanbase more than a rebuild where you draft well and there’s hope and a buzz around the team. If you don’t have that the team slowly leaches into less and less interest. The ownership man…

I mean, look at the oots threads to see how many people here still watch the Oilers no matter how miserable and angry it makes them. They'd probably do the same for the Flames.
